I'm geetting ready to purchase a fountain for my wedding cakes. My question is, which one is the better one to buy and why, the Kolor-Flo Fountain, or the Fanci Fountain? Also, I noticed different colors, is this tint in the water? If it's a light and not tinted water, are both fountains capable of different colors? What advice can you ladies give me about these fountains. I've never used one and don't know a thing at all about them. Any and all help, advice, input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and God Bless. - Ellie

I don't know about brands. I've always just rented. You can tint the water with food coloring. I don't like to do this because it splatters out and gets spots all over a white tablecloth.

I sent this post out last night and only received one reply. I thougth I'd get it back up and see if anyone this afternoon may have any insight on this for me. If anyone can help out with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The one reply I did get was about tinting the water, and how it's not really a good idea because it splatters on the table cloth. Now I'm worried because my bride wants gold water. Any suggestions?

Another question, you wouldn't just set the fountain up and not cover the base of it would you? She wants it setting on top of the bottom layer.

HELP - HELP! - HELP!

God Bless - Ellie

the cakes I've always seen with the fountains have it under the entire cake!! There are wires and everything coming from the back of it I think it would be way too difficult to have to remove the entire fountain when you went to serve up the cake....to cover up the base I would use fresh flowers to put around it...it looks beautiful!! They have big styrofoam rings too that would fit around the base, then you could stick some really nice silk flowers right into the styrofoam and it would be easy to put on and take off.......I don't find that tinting the water really does THAT much!! I think it looks more sparkly and beautiful when it's clear! Maybe you should get a fountain and set it up for the bride and show her with dimmed lighting the difference between tinted and untinted...I bet you would find (especially tinting it gold) that there isn't a whole lot of difference...if you were tinting it RED maybe....but gold??

I'm with Jenn123....the first thing I thought of when I heard "gold water".....probably not the effect she wants at the wedding!

I thought the samething about gold water - but then I don't really like red water either - it reminds me of blood. jmho. I haven't had a call for for the foutain. for along time. I would suggest being very careful about putting the fountain on fabric and then surrounding it with flowers. I did that one time and had to many flowers and the foutain couldn't breath. As the night wore on it melted part of the base. It's still usable.

My mom did cakes for over 20 years & I have been doing them for over 15 years and have had to replace them a couple of times over the years. We always buy which ever one is cheaper. They are both good and the parts have always been interchangeable. I do like the fountain when the cascding part is the fancier one & not just the plain sided on.

Hope this helps a little. If you have any more questions just PM & I'll be happy to tell you anything I know.

ditto on the colored light bulb - when I saw "gold water"....well, suffice to say that what that would look like is probably nothing like what the bride is picturing, plus, anything you would have to use in order to get a glittery, opaque gold might clog up the fountain.

There was a fountain under my wedding cake (ages ago) and it was tinted a light gold, not yellow hehe. It was very pretty, and looked like champagne flowing all nice and bubbly. The decorator ( I didn't make it) made roses a candelight color with faint pink edges, and surrounded the edge of the fountain with them.

I would say go with the gold water, but ask that the table cloth be an off-white instead of pure white. The splatters won't be as noticeable. It should be beautiful!

Thank you all so much. Funny, I never even for a second thought of what gold water would look like, but ya'll are right. Her other colors are pale pink and a sage green. I think I'll talk to her about this a bit more and see if she won't consider using a pale pink color or a sage green. Sounds much better to me.

Lisa, I'm not sure what you meant by the cascade. Do those two fountains have a different cascade? I went to Hobby Lobby this evening just to look at them, they only had the one, they had the fanci fountain. There sure isn't much to them is there? I wanted to get more feed back here from you ladies before I purchase which ever one I'm going to purchase. But looks like Hobby Lobby only ever has the one. Theirs in $5.00 less than ordering one from Wilton, plus if they send out a 40% off on any item anytime soon like they do pretty often, I'll use it for that and will end up only paying $39 for it. That's not bad at all.

ANY insight would be appreciated Lisa, between you and your Mother, sounds like you really know what your talking about. I did want to ask you, a few ladies mentioned colored light bulbs, where would I go to even find that particular bulb, and are the colored ones hard to find?

God Bless - Ellie

I have the bigger Wilton fountain and the cascading tiers set that you can buy to go with it, but to tell you the truth, I much prefer the cheapy fountain I bought from an eBay store not too long ago...it's really beautiful and it comes with colored light bulbs too.

When I thought of golden water, I thought of champagne, not urine. LOL

Here's the link to what I bought: eBay Fountain

The light bulbs can be purchased at any home store. I've even seen them at drugstores like Walgreens. It's a common nightlight bulb.

I found my cake fountain with the cascading tiers set on Ebay. I purchased it at the online auction price of $19.00 (new). I also purchased a long white extension cord to blend with the table cloth when using it. As for tinting the water, I didn't want to use the food coloring because it tends to splash and discolor the fountain. My youngest son discovered by adding colored pebbles to the bottom of the fountain. It gives me the desired effect and is really inexpensive. icon_wink.gif
