Hi everybody,
This is my very first decorated cake....I have baked cakes earlier but never frosted/decorated it. I
m currently taking wilton classes(course1) and made this doll cake for my daughter's b'day.
I want to guys to give me ur honest opinion about what you feel about the cake...any suggestions or criticism is welcome.
I'm all for improvising.
Thanks again.
I think you did a really nice job, including how you posed the doll.
Good luck with your classes, it looks like you're going to do quite well.

Hope you have better luck than I did, while I did learn how to do it, boy did I struggle and I found out I dont like fondant, or maybe it doesnt like me.
I love working with buttercream, and whip....and even royal icing.
wish u luck. I have to attempt a castle cake for a 3yr old next week. this weekend is a wedding cake.

Maybe it's the brand of fondant that you are using. Different brands and even homemade can make a difference. Personally, I like to make mine. I have very few problems with it. If I have to use commercial fondant(s) I go with Pettinice or Satin Ice. There are other brands available, some are good, some are NOT (such as Wilton).
Don't forget to knead the fondant until it is very smooth before rolling it. To help make this easier, put the amount you need for one cake in the microwave and heat it on a low setting for about 1 minute. If it's still not warmed a little bit, try 30 second intervals, again on a low setting. If you try to heat it quickly it will crystallize the sugar and burn the thunder out of your hands.
