I have to go to a PIE social! I don't want to make a pie! I do CAKES now!!! I found a cute cherry pie on here ( http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_45966.html ) but I thought it would be fun to do it with Chocolate cake and cherry pie filling for the torted filling. I think I am going to bake it in my 9 inch round pan and then carve it to fit in my pampered chef pie plate.

What do you guys think about the choco and cherry filling? Sound good? Do I need to cut up the pie filling before I put it in the cake? Can I just use more pie filling on top Under my "crust" (like this one http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_152813.html ) or should I do the BC cherries?

Thanks!! I know I can count on you all!!

I think that combo sounds yummy! I'd go for it!! I think I'd chop up the filling part as you suggested and use the regular stuff under the crust! Can't wait to see what you do!! Post pics!!

Just a suggestion, and I'm not sure it would work, couldn't you bake the cake in a pie pan? That way it would have the shape without you needing to carve it.

Hi, The Chocolate and cherry idea is great. I would just bake it in the pie plate too and leave it in there. I would just use the cherries as a topping once it's cooled. . I tried to look up the links and could not get to them.
Anyways, I would put dollips off whip cream on the top to finish it up, and it would look great. I think. I will try the links again.

I know what you mean about little ones being happy and just going with the time you have.

Good Luck.

That's what I would do. Although I have to say I'm fairly new to this. By the way, I love your Easter cake, it's beautiful!

I just saw the pics. Wow, those are really fun,

like the second picture the one with the cream cheese frosting. I would just bake it in the pan and leave it, you might have to (undome) it! Sorry is that even an expression? I mean take a little more out so the sides of the cake are there, but then add the filling and go to town decorating.

Good Luck.

Anyone have a good, EASY, moist, scratch chocolate cake recipe?? (no she doesn't ask much does she!) I realy did want to try a scratch recipe this time![/b]

this isn't exactly what you said you were looking for, but i did this cake recently and it was awesome! its from the cake mix doctor;

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake

1 pkg devils food cake mix
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
2 large eggs
1 tsp almond extract

Heat oven to 350 degrees, grease two 9 inch pans and dust with flour. Place the cake mix, cherry pie filling, eggs, and almond in a large bowl. Blend on low for 1 minute, scrape down sides, and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Batter should look thick and smooth.

i filled it with cherry pie filling and covered in chocolate ganache. for your black forest cake, you could fill with whipped cream and cherry pie filling and top with more whipped cream. yum!

That sounds soooo good! do you think I could just use premade whipcream? That would probably hold up best as a filler huh? Or should I use a whipped icing?

i think premade whipped cream or make your own from heavy whipping cream would be best. good luck with your "pie" cake!

just those four things! its super easy, with only mix, cherries, eggs, and extract. it ends up with a thick batter, more like brownie batter and almost as thick as cookie dough. not thin like a standard cake batter. good luck!

Okay- So I was able to eat a piece of it. It was sooooo good! I am definately keeping that in my list of flavors to offer!! I spent about $11 just on ingredients for the cake and filler - How much should I charge if someone asked me to do this for them? 25 or 30?

since you've got the fondant on it, i would say $30 is reasonable. you're fondant pie crust is gorgeous btw! i love how you painted on the different shades of brown. i'll have to try it out like that. i bet no one even knew it was cake until they cut into it too!
