Hello fellow CCer's, this is my very first post, asking for help. I've been a member since Feb. 06 but I've finally gotten the nerve to start interacting. Anyway here's my question: My son is turning 13 the 16th of April.....I am toying with the idea of doing some type of Car cake. He loves Mustangs. I would love to do some type of 3D car cake (but I don't have enough nerve to try and sculpt a cake, one day I will). Since he is going to finally be a teenager (he reminds me every day!!) I want this cake to be really special, that is why I've decided to reach out for other ideas because right now my creative juices are not flowing very well, any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, yecats

I would try a little car cake - why not? I've got a purse cake waiting for me to decorate as I type as a try for my DD b-day!

What about a drivers license cake? 9 x 13 with a photo image of your son and then all the license info on it. You could find a car chocolate mold and decorate with those around the border.

Adding on here...
Oops - I saw April 16th and thought your son was turning 16 - sorry! icon_redface.gif

What about tackling a part of a car like some tires and a few tools?

I think wilton does have a car pan if you wanted to try that.

I agree family, friends and co-workers are great testers. They love free cake too. Our first test of our purses was with my daughters 21st birrthday. She has a large LV purse that she loves. So we made an exact replica of it. Size, colors and all. It was great. We learned alot by doing it and everyone loves it. I also used my other daughter for the gift box cake. They both thought is was so great that they are picking their next years cake already for me to try. We've also done some car cakes too, not that hard, feel free to look. Maybe you could do a small car on a sheet cake, going down a road, and there is a turn with a sign that saids "Entering Teenage Road", and have something like RT. 13 on it also.

I really like the date of his birthday thumbs_up.gif , could it be because it's the same date as mine, but I won't tell my age icon_lol.gif.

Hope this helps.

Wilton makes a car pan if you don't feel comfortable carving your own, but I don't know how close to a Mustang it looks like. Or you could also do a FBCT of a Mustang on a sheet cake for him.

Frozen Buttercream transfer - the instructions are in the Articles section, which begins on the CC homepage.

You can do a Mustang symbol in fondant covered in metalic silver and put that on top of a regular sheet cake. Simple, but gets straight to the heart of what he likes, and the symbol is a neat one (not to mention a big fat yee haw for Ford bringing back something that actually looks similar to "real" mustangs)

yes, you could do the wilton car pan and that would be really easy.

I recently carved a lightning mcqueen cake (see my avatar) and it wasnt really too hard if you plan it out first. You know figure out what the dimesions should be as far as length, width, where the windshield should start ect. If you do that it is just a matter of measuring. If you have a model that helps a lot too.

If you dont want to go the 3-d route you could do a FBCT or chocolate transfers of a car.

Hello. If you don't want to do a 3D cake, how about a sheet cake that looks like a driver's liscense.

If you are unsure about sculpting try a FBCT.
