I'm so sorry to hear she was unhappy with the castle. She must have really studied the cake on your website! I stand by what I said on the other thread about this--both castles are very cute! But, I understand your reasoning in giving her the refund.
Glad to hear she's willing to give you another chance! I'm just floored that one of her complaints was that it was too big. I've never known a customer (for cakes or other stuff) that would have had a problem with getting more than they paid for. Oh well, to each his own. ![]()
PS: I have to agree with JennT's idea about putting a disclaimer on your website. In fact, I'm making a mental note to do that to my own website also!
You did what you did in a professional way! I would have did the same thing, even though she should have paid for something.
But, for the next cake you do for her , I don't know about you but I would be so NERVOUS to make a cake for her due to the fact that this lady will be looking at every detail.
Good luck on the next cake for her! WOW, you have a BIG HEART! (there are more people out there like us than you think, huh.)

Heehee, sorry but Zamode you are too funny! I think we have all thought that at one point or another along the way! ![]()
I think Kitagirl, that you do lovely work. And I think you are a true professional and handled the situation in the best possible way! Very impressive kiddo, hope this weekend goes better for you!

Kitagirl, glad you did what felt right to you. It would have bugged you if you hadn't done it that way.
Don't you guys ever sleep? Look at the time ya'll are posting?!?
Wow...okay...she just wrote and asked that I take out my ingredient cost from her refund! I'm not doing it, but I'm really glad that after the initial disappointment she is being so nice.
That is great kiddo, just shows how well you handled it all, she is being nice too!
Hugs Squirrelly
i think helendelk was right, some people really want a whole lot of something for nothing, if she didn't say take this cake back, and we'll get one from the grocery store or some other baker, she was satifed enough to eat it. next time kiss that off as a cake gone wrong no one is perfect, offer less then half off the price you charged ( you put your time and sweat in to that cake) you deserve someting too.
Well she could have been too nice to give the cake back... and she really didn't ask for a refund, she just replied to my email and told me what she didn't like. And she really softened after the refund. I just hated that the whole thing had to happen...but I think its ok now. ![]()
Glad it worked out OK for you! That's tough and you always feel bad no matter what. I'm glad she came back w/the offer of ingredients deducted. At least you know she wasn't totally upset and is willing to work w/you too. I dont think I would deduct it either. It's better she told you she was upset, than tell everyone else but you and then you wouldn'g have had a chance to make it right or know that something was wrong. Ohh am I rambling or what. Bedtime for me, but good luck. Like I said before you do a great job!
Good for you, Kita! I'm glad it worked out! It's her loss, your cakes are very nice! ![]()

I'm so sorry to hear that you had this problem. So glad that everthing turned out well. I hope she is a return customer! I had a simular problem a few years ago. I did a small wedding cake that was done in one day and I had a bad spot on the bottom layer. I covered it up with icing. Needless to say the bride and groom chose to cut into the bad spot for their pictures! They mother of the bride was more upset than the bride. I didn't get anymore requests for cakes. But the bride didn't pay for the cake either! It was a present.
Ok I looked at your castle and well I would say you were way to generous... It's beautiful... The handwritng looks good and the pink well if it was the wrong color Umm ok... Being a customer service manager for so many years you learn some people know how to get things free in the world... Not to be rude but little details like that shouldn't be made into such a huge deal like this. Especially for a 4 yr old birthday party. Ok I'm probably over stepping here but 1. It is a beautiful cake 2. It probablly didnt matter to the 4 yr old girl she probablly thought it was the best cake ever. 3. The customer probablly ate the cake herself and loved it but just didnt want to pay 70.00 bucks for a cake and had to make a complaint about something to try to get a refund somewhere..
When dealing with customers yes they are always right but sometimes you have to look into just how wrong they are as well. I think she wasn't due a full refund maybe 20% back but you handled it well. Just next time take your talent in consideration so you had a bad weekend but girl that was a beautiful cake even tho there were a few small flaws.. I'd like to see the lady make a cake like that.. Remember people talk and some people will tell friends," hey if you order a cake from her and you don't like the writing or color she'll give you a full refund or offer percentage back and 50% off next order." You wouldn'tthink people do but sadly it happens all the time. Don't short change your talent and skill just to make a over indulged WAY to picky person happy. I mean like I said the 4 yr old probablly thought it was the most beautiful cake in the world...
Ok Im done..lol sorry if I made anyone mad but hey you work as a customer service manager for a car rental you be surprised the things you hear and you have to be objective not only for the customer but for your comapny as well...
I agree with you on this one. I worked in retail for 10yrs and was a Part/Time Customer Service Mgr and I'll never do that again. But unfortunately that's how customers are..
Kitagirl, You know that even though you had to rush, the cake was beautiful. I would toss it up now and just use it as a learning experience, so don't fret over it.
*sigh*
Now I got an email that the name I wrote on her check was her maiden name (its what was on her email address) and she can't cash it because she now has a married name (and doesn't have two forms of ID to cash it). She wanted to know if she could send it back, and if I could send a money order instead. ![]()
I just wrote back and said "Sure send it back, when I get it, I'll send a replacement check with the correct name."
I don't know that I want to make her any more cakes. ![]()
Wow!
If it's not one thing...it's another!
I hope everything turns out ok. And, I hope she doesn't insist on a money order when you could easily redo a check. Maybe she thinks you're trying NOT to refund her money. I don't know, but I don't think I'd make any cakes for her anymore. It might be a repeat of this, but with a different inital problem.
good luck, and BTW, your cakes are great!
