I had a 40% coupon burning my hand today....and since I have just about everything in the cake decorating aisle at Michaels I decided to buy the Wilton 3- tier cake and dessert stand

I was shocked when I got home and opened the box and saw the bases were made of styrofoam!! This may have already been discussed in another thread........but I wanted to know how others felt. I have already boxed it up and will be taking it back.....I have so many other of their stands.... I never thought to check what it was made of........but I can't imagine that this would be strudy.....nor last very long....... any one else feel this way??? Donna

Yes. I too bought it w/a 50% coupon a bit ago. I decided to keep it because, when I get some "free" time, I want to have my friend duplicate it in wood. He can use it as a sample to go by. I will still use it for light weight items. Desserts for sure. Helen

I was going to purchase on too. I saw something like it in a Sam's ad. It didn't give any details though whether theirs is styro or not.. When I at the Wilton one on the website and saw it was styro I questioned how sturdy it would be. Good idea to use it as a template though!!

Sam's offers the same thing - styrofoam and all - for cheaper. I have this Wilton stand. You definitely have to use your creativity to find some thing to cover up the styrofoam part for parties and such. I've used toille (sp?) and grapes before. I've even covered the styrofoam with wrapping paper. My husband is supposed to make some wood parts for it in the future.

It's actually held some pretty heavy cakes, but I didn't feel confident the whole time the cake was on it thumbsdown.gif

I have the one from Sma's it was only $12.99 and I use it often. I use fabric to cover it. It is the exact same as the Wilton one, I have found it perfect for smaller cakes and cupcakes.
