I've always wandered what sticks work the best for cookies, so I'd like to find out in a poll.
Thanks all.

Hello

I am fairly new to all this but I have had great success with just thin wooden skewers. I have just discovered today that inserting them when the cookie is taken straight from the oven worked much better too! Also wooden skewers are nice and long and easy to shorten! Hope this helps in your poll!

I like to use long lollipop sticks that you can buy at craft stores, their a little longer than regular lollipop sticks and don't burn either.

I've tried a couple different one but find I like the wooden skewers. The last package I bought was at the dollar store, there had to be a good 100 skewers in there so being they are cheap are a bonus too. thumbs_up.gif

i use the wooden skewers also. i stick the pointy end into the cookie, that seemed to be easier than the sucker sticks... to me anyway.. but i'm pretty new at this myself. i get 100 of them at walmart for 1.77 i think. It makes them cost practically nothing when you divide it out..

I like the wooden bamboo skewers too. Easy to shorten and the pointy end slides into a warm cookie REALLY easy!

I personally like the lollipop sticks. I buy them in a variety of sizes ranging from 18 inches down to 4 inches, and just trim if necessary. I bake my cookies with the sticks in, this way they dont have a tendancy to spin or break off the cookie, and I dont ever have to handle a hot cookie while trying to insert a stick. Its just a matter of preference, and when you want to insert your sticks, before or after. Good luck!

I just tried making cookies on a stick today and I bought the cookie sticks found in Micheals. I think next time Im going to try the baboo skewers they seem more cost effective than the cookie sticks. does anyone know if they burn or discolor in the oven!

I never use anything but wood dowels (3/16). But my cookies are between 3/8 and 1/2 inch thick. The scewers couldn't take the weight. I was a wood crafter for 13 years so I have all the equipment to cut them to size.

Happy Baking!!

ive wondered about the bamboo skewers but they look like they shred and split, especially after being cut, and i was also concerned about the sharp point in the cookie, what if its given to a child. do you cut that off? another stick i have thought of using is chopsticks, they are bamboo and not round, but squared off at one end, this would stop the cookie spinning on the stick, anyone use these?

I haven't had a problem with the cookie spinning, but it's been posted to just put a dab of RI on the stick if it spins and that will stop it.

I use the bamboo skewers, so inexpensive! I haven't had a problem with them splintering even after cutting. I usually just snip the sharp point off the top and then you still have a tapered end that easily inserts into the cookie but isn't sharp.

Put them in right when you take the cookies out when they're still soft. The cookie will cool around the stick and keep it stable.[/quote]
