We are going to be having a Spa/Makeover Party for my step daughter in a couple of weeks. I have been searching the gallery and absolutely LOVE the makeup bag cake.
However, my skills are limited. How difficult would you rate this cake on a scale of 1-5 (5 being for the pros only)? Also, I have never worked with fondant. Is this just way out of my league?
Do you have time to take the fondant/gumpaste class from wilton? That might help with the fondant dilemna.
Hmmm...I doubt it. The party is next weekend. I could ask my Wilton instructor if she could be available for help if I need it. But overall, how difficult is this cake.
Here is a link to a great one from the gallery...
I saw the make-up bag and I think it's a 2.
Do you think your instructor would help just to cover it with fondant?
aine2 thanks for that great link.....and to Nati of course for those great instructions and pictures. I think I am going to have to try some of those!
Wow the wonderful things you find on this site.
you should have no problem
Thanks for all of your help...
Jamiet- I pm'd you a question.
Well, a couple more questions...
(I am not sure how to post a picture, so if you can not see it, it is the link I posted above)
Could I ice this cake with buttercream (the majority of the bag) and then just make fondant flowers, dots and the top and bottom outline (in green)? If I'm reading the description correctly, it seems that she did only the accents in fondant.
Also, how does she get the perfect criss cross pattern on this cake? Is there a press or something for that? Is that the quilt impression mat that is mentioned? Where would I get one of those?
Are chocolate molds pretty easy to work with? How does she get the makeup to look shiny and sparkly?
Hope you all don't mind my questions. I want to give it a try soon, but I want to have proper instructions so I don't waste too much time or money.
