For some reason I am having such a hard time coming up with a price for this cake I have to do by April 22 icon_confused.gif . I would love some of your help!!

I'm doing a 12x18 sheet with the wilton cross pan on top, all buttercream frosting, roses with buds, and a fondant circle to write "God Bless", and fondant pearls around the cross with luster dust.

I'm not the fastest little baker/decorator icon_redface.gif , so I know it will take me 2 to 3 days. I had to purchase these new pans, being still (I say) a beginner. They are coming to pick it up, so no delivery.

I called some bakeries in my area and they are so totally different from one another, I just don't know what would be best for me, my work, and my client.

Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

Hard to say because prices vary so much from area to area. Sometimes the easiest thing is for you to come up with a per serving price for yourself and then decide how much above and beyond the basics does this design go. For me, the half sheet alone would be $130 and probably another $53 for the cross (if it feeds about 15). I include most decorations in that price and it sounds like your cake's decs wouldn't go over that.

Final answer from me: $185.

I guess it really depends on your area. There would be no way I could get that much for that cake around here. What are the other bakeries saying? Are they around the $185 mark?

I would charge $95 as it is $65 for sheet cake and $30 for cross.

I'm a beginner too, so this is what I would charge...where I'm at and my skill level. I price cakes at 1.25 a serving and then add a little extra for "complication"...so the cake you described, to me, would be about $85-90. If you break that down, it should serve about 51 people which would still only be about 1.75 a slice...pretty cheap if you ask me. Good luck and can't wait to see the pics!

oh...and I look at the purchasing of pans and stuff as necessary...so I usually don't price that into the cake...i'll hopefully use the pans again and again

12 x 18 is bigger then a standard store 1/2 sheet (16x12). Now are you doing a single layer or double layer 12x18. The pan has two marks that tell you this.

If single layer with buttercream = $50.00 (which is about 2 cake box mixes - double will be 4 boxes, double the price)

cross shaped pan cake - $30.00

fondant pearls for around the cross - $15.00 - $20.00, lot of working making those.

some roses and writing include in price unless they ask for a lot of roses. Some store you are looking if you get 6 - 8 roses on a 1/2 sheet.

Good luck.

1/2 Sheet
12x18
Slice Size  # of servings
2 x 2   54
2 x 3   36
3 x 3   24

SHAPE  SIZE  NUMBER OF SERVINGS
(2"X2"X2")   (1"X2"X4")

12"x18" (1/2)   54   108

No less than a 100.00. You will have plenty of time and talent into this cake. Make it worth your time.

icon_cry.gif I made a cake similar back in January only it was a 11x15 (one layer) with a cross cake on top. It was raspberry filled and had roses and rose buds on the cross along with drop flowers. I live in Wisconsin and my local supermarket bakery sells a 1/2 sheet for $26.00 so i try not to go over their prices. So I sold it for $36.00. The lady would have fell over if I charged her 80 0r higher! I would love to charge that much. maybe I will be raising my prices!
