I am entering the Sacramento County Fair Cake Decorating contest next month..I'm debating..I'm think of making either a Faberge Egg OR a Cinderella SHoe on a pillow..I've done only real cakes in the past, but not dummy..I'm assuming they are easier to handle and won't go bad, so I have more time to work on them..what is the best icing to use under Fondant on a dummy cake ???

Well, most people are not bothering to use the buttercream or apricot glaze to adhere the fondant to the styrofoam dummies anymore. Most people are covering the dummies in plastic wrap so they can resuse them. Frequently they are just dampening the styrofoam to attach the fondant or using piping gel.
Well I think the Cinderella Shoe and pillow has been done a fair amount, you might have better luck at winning with the Faberge Egg or something not used as much. Of course, if your shoe and pillow are really unusual and detailed, the odds would be more in your favour. Just my opinion.
