Here are 2 gumpaste flamingo's I made yesterday. The first one I colored the gumpaste before I made the flamingo. With the second one I made the flamingo white and painted it with thinned out wilton gel

I don't like the way the first one is shaped. Please help me decide which coloring looks better.

While I think they both look ADORABLE, I have to be different and go with the second one.

I think the coloring on the second looks more like a real flamingo.

Both are adorable, but like the first one better. You could try painting on some feathers to the first one to see how that works out.

I've attached a pic below of the American Flamingo. They're a little lighter than what is showing as they are in shade.

I meant to add:
There are flamigos much lighter in color, just a different variety. They go from white with a very pale pink to dark almost coral pink.
Basically depends on their foods.

i like the 2nd one better...looks more realistic... like the feathers are ruffled. i dont think they are perfectly smooth.
BUT.... both are great !!!

Second one is better. Coloring is more realistic and the legs are a little longer, you can see his "knees" better KWIM? The first ones seem a bit too short, he is still cute though, just vertically challenged LOL!

I agree with crissyann and duncansmom. I like the coloring on #1 and the shape of #2. But, they are both cute and if you are going to have more than one on your cake, you should do all different shapes and colorings because (as MY WMI used to tell us) "There is nothing PERFECT in nature!". Also, just like people and snowflakes.....I bet no two flamingos are identical!

Thanks guys!! I don't like the shape of the first one either. It's head is too big and it sagged a little while drying. The cake I need these for isn't until June but I wanted to start playing around and see what I could come up with.

Do you think if I colored in the neck of the second one that would make it look better?

Thanks everyone for your help. After totaling up what you all picked, it was 12 for the first one and 11 for the second. After adding what my DD, DH, and coworkers thought the coloring of the first won wins. Although I really like how the 2nd one is shaped and it will probably still be used on the cake.

I like the knees on the second one. If you do another, I'd probably make one of the backward knees. I still think the first one is cute - he's just allergic to shrimp icon_biggrin.gif
