I have used store bought fondant (yuck) but never MMF. I'm making a baby shower cake later this month and have a few questions.
When you make fondant figures or pearls, do you let them dry and harden? If so, how hard? Completely or just enough to handle safely? How do you store them?
I don't want anyone breaking a tooth! LOL How hard does the MMF get? Should I add gumpaste to it for pearls?
Thank you in advance. ![]()

I have let my MMF figures dry from as little as a few hours to a few days. I have also used them as soon as they are cut. MMF will harden up, but still be somewhat pliable. It does not harden like the Wilton stuff, at least not in a day or so.
Thank you both for your replies and help.
I guess the next question is do I want them to harden completely? Like for the pearls, if I make them now (shower is the 23rd of April) do I store them in an air tight container now or leave them out to dry more until use?
Also, at what point should I add the luster dust?
Sorry for all the questions.... just trying to do this really well. ![]()

Hey guys - I'm doing some pearls for a cake this weekend also and am using MMF. MMF doesn't dry anywhere near as hard as store bought fondant, since they have special hardeners in them that MMF doesn't have. So don't worry about anyone breaking a tooth! I had some fondant stuff out for over a week and it still wasn't hard, although it held its shape just fine. If they were made out of gumpaste - I think they would get much harder - but you don't have to worry about that with MMF. You can put the Super Pearl on at any point - I don't see that it would make a difference at all.
As far as the loops for the bow - I have also been looking for good instructions on how to do one - and in my "research" I learned that you can use melted candy melts to hold the loops in place or royal icing. I don't think buttercream would be strong enough.
Hope that helps!
Melissa
