Does 7 minute frosting crust? I've never used it before, but I'm out of PS and I was thinking about trying it...

My 7 minute icing crusts very little...not like buttercream at all. I use this icing on all my coconut cakes only. I love the taste!

Mine does not crust either. My DH loves this icing on Devils Food Cake.

I like White Mountain Frosting and I think it is very similar to 7 minute frosting but it doesn't crust either, but it taste great.

darkchocolate

White Mountain Frosting (Betty Crocker) Double this recipe
½ C sugar
¼ C light corn syrup
2 T water
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in small saucepan.
Cover; heat to rolling boil over medium heat.
Remove cover and boil rapidly, without stirring, to 242 F on candy thermometer.
As mixture boils, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Pour hot syrup very slowly in a thin stream into the beaten egg whites, beating constantly on medium speed.
Beat on high speed until stiff peaks form.
Add vanilla during last minute of beating.

Just curious....what does this icing taste like? I see it's very similar to IMBC (without all the butter).....is it a whipped cream-like texture/consistency?

It's very light and fluffy...lighter than whipped cream. It's just a meringue frosting.

It's probably in just about any regular, generic cookbook. There's one in the Betty Crocker cookbook, I know.
