It's way more fun to do together. Then you can show one partly made to someone else and say "do you think I should put dots around this?" and then when we finish one, we can immediately show it to the others and get instant gratification "Oh, that's beautiful!" 
If you search for "making pysanky" in Google Images, you will see several pictures of people sitting around a table, all working on an egg.
