Using Edible Shimmer Dust Or Glitters On Buttercream?
Decorating By AmberCakes Updated 4 Apr 2006 , 1:34pm by AmberCakes
Hello! I am making a big cake for a 50th birthday party in 2 weeks.
I am using Sharon's (SugarShack) idea to use corn syrup in the buttercream to stiff the icing on making roses in advance (Thanks, Sharon),
BUT I would like to add alittle sparkle to the cake by adding something like shimmer dust or glitter to the roses-edible of course. What kind can I use for the buttercream roses with the corn syrup in them?
Thanks to all in Advance! ![]()
She did not give specific instructions on it. But here is the topic link:

I figured I would just try it somehow. LOL!
Thanks JoAnnB! I will buy both the luster dust and the glitter just to be on the safe side.
The corn syrup does not make the icing stiif. It makes stiff icing smoother to work with. Does that make sense. Her roses are so pretty.
The edible glitter I have is more like flakes, so if you want a finer glitter, you can grind it up. I'd suggest to sprinkle the glitter or dust on before the roses have crusted over. You can apply it after it has crusted, but you have to be very gentle and not press in on the icing.
I don't know on the corn syrup because I am still a newbie, but I will try it to see if it easier for me. Thanks.
