My church is holding an auction fund raiser to help raise funds for the youth group's summer camping trip. I'm doing a cake for the church to help donate and also to get my name out in the public. I want something very eye catching that's gonna make them say, "Wow who made this!?" This is a once in a year chance for me to really do something that will get by hopefully future bussiness out there. I'm thinking of doing maybe two or even three cakes by Sunday (day of the auction) please help me. Thank you all.

P.S. Please check out my photos to see what I'm able to do and see what you come up with. Thanks again! icon_biggrin.gif

How about a big camping theme. Use fondant for tents, fire, people in a lake...There are some great pics of camping in the gallery...

If you can get your hands on the 1993 Wilton Yearbook, they have instructions on page 33 to make a "Garden Party" cake. It consists of a teapot and 4 cups and saucers. In the yearbook it's a birthday cake but it doesn't have to be. Something like this would go over VERY well in a church auction...I know it would in *my* church.

If you're interested and can't find it, let me know and I'll scan the picture and type out the instructions for you.

I agree, I think the camping idea is wonderful! Since that's what the auction is for. Maybe do one cake in a camping theme......one that's prettier with flowers etc. and even the teapot one........I know a lot of people that would love that.....keep in mind easter is coming up too......depending on when the auction is people maybe want the cakes for easter....or at least you could show them some cakes that would be nice for easter and maybe you could get some orders for EAster!

My son's school had a silent auction as a fund raiser last year so I made a display of my cake pictures and donated a coupon for a cake to be made at a later date. The winner of the auction had me make her son's birthday cake. I'm not sure what it ended up going for but the last time I looked it was like $40! You could even put a small cake for samples...

I see that you're quite capable of a LOT after looking at your pictures!
I don't know if this is any help for "this" Sunday (or for an "auction") but for future reference, mini cake's are great sellers for fundraisers/bake sales. I've made our children's ministry a nice sum to cover our curriculum in the past by selling mini cake's at our annual bake sale. (You can see some of them in my album). People go crazy over these little cakes! (Note: when you don't put a price on them and allow people to give what they're lead to give for them, they tend to give a lot more!) Let me know if you have any questions and I hope things go very well this Sunday!
Blessings,
elly

Ditto on the mini cakes - there's something about miniatures that fascinate people, and it's unique enough that they would picture you doing those cakes rather than the ordinary ones from a bakery - plus, the size is perfect for one or two people to eat. You can even do five or six in different designs and show off your versatility! Let us know how it goes!!

The first thing that came to my mind was the camping theme. You could also make a fish shaped cake. I think a cake decorated in Easter lillies would be nice also.

I like the camping theme idea also. It fits right in with the reason for the fund raiser.

At our bake sale fundraiser this year, we actually sold a certificate for a birthday cake which could be claimed at anytime in the next year, with a 2 week notice. We had a few photos of different cakes which would be available to choose from. That way, a person with a birthday in 3 months would already have their cake planned. This worked great with the silent auction format!
