I know I know.....

Everyone is tired of cake ball questions. I have several failed cakes this weekend (long sad story) and don't want to throw them away.

I was wondering if you could use heavy whipping cream or some other unflavored cream to make these? I opened up a bottle of vanilla caramel and the smell made me want to vomit. I don't know why, but I am scared as to how they will taste. Can I use plan cream and flavor with extracts?

Also, what about adding coconut to the ball mix dipping in chocolate and then rolling in coconut again? Has anyone ever done that?

Thanks in advance!
Crystal

I don't know the answer to this question, but are you sure you're not pregnant? Over sensitivity to smells was my first clue that I had a bun in the oven. icon_smile.gif

I have never used creamers in my cake balls. Try just good ol' buttercream and add flavors from there.

Coconut sounds great too BTW!

any liquid will work. (hmm coffee and chocolate syrup in chocolate cake -- mocha balls!)

so yes, plain cream is fine.

can even use leftover buttercream icing.

just be sure to use "just enough" to get them to form firm balls and not be overly wet and mushy.

I though the same thing. Prego anyone? The only flavor that does not turn my stomach right now is Lemon!

Anyhow, I few treads this week about these and one was really good about all kinds of flavors mixed together!

Good Luck.

You can use anything to bind them with. I have used coffee syrups, honey, extracts, left over frosting, you name it!!!

After trying all those things, have you found a favorite?

If you do happen to mix in too much BC you can form them into balls and bake in the oven again for about 10 minutes on 325. I did this the first time I made them and they were much better after re-baking. I did them on a cookie sheet or a 1/2 sheet pan.
