It took moving out and living with my sister for a year for me to realize that I'm always gonna be a momma's boy. When I started my little journey into cake decorating I dont think my mom was very enthusiastic, but she came around very fast. I'm in the process of applying to pastry school and she's giving me soo much support (litterally cause pastry school aint cheap I've been finding out).

So today, she calls me and tells me to come downstairs. And she has a car full of cake mix for me. My sister works at one of the local grocery store and they had DH (even though I converted to PB and BC) on sale so she told my mom and my mom went and got me some. I just love her to death. Everytime I see her we discuss baking in some way and I'll mention to her something about ordering a cake pan or something. She's gotten to the point where she'll go, "Why dont you just let me order it." She's a food service director and she's getting me some good deals. She had her supplier find me some high ratio shortening. I'm definitely gonna milk this for all its worth

I just had to share with the cake world my mother and her total awesomeness!

You are very lucky to have your mom be supportive, enjoy her and what she does for you.
My mom was the same way, she was so cute. We lived 1500 miles apart the last 10 years of her life and she would send me little or large packages all the time with all kinds of stuff, I really miss her.
Most important is that you guys can talk and be together. Say thanks here and there, I know that means a lot.
You should make her a nice little cake just for her.
Good Luck with school.

Wow, what a great Mom! Remember this on Mother's day (I think you already will!). Good luck with your pastry school decisions and make your momma proud!

I started to appreciate my parents more and more when I moved out too. It's been 9 yrs and we have an amazing relationship.

I love hearing stories of this kind of support from a persons family. My mother was always my biggest supporter too. She surprised me in 1964 with my very first KitchenAid mixer. My sister recently said something that really touched my heart. Our mother has been gone since 1974 and we all still miss her. But my sister was talking about my cakes and she said "Mama would be so proud of you and how far you have come with your cakes." And I know that is true, she would be. Made me cry.

I wish you great success in pastry school. you are going to work so hard, but you will learn so much. Then you need to pay it forward and pass some of what you have learned on to others.
