ive tried making this before to cover a cake, and it was gooey and soft..it never hardened, even in the fridge. any ideas? im not sure what to do. i dont like the taste of a cake completely covered in fondant, so i was going to do a buttercream-frosted cake with fondant decorations so it would taste better. please help!

Is it the buttercream that was gooey? I'm a little confused. Which recipe did you use?

Your best be for taste in fondant is to make it yourself. Marshmallow fondant is easy and tasty, as are several other recipes. making it yourself allows you to add a bit of flavor in the liquid.

There are several recipes here in the recipe forum for different kinds of buttercream. The ones that crust are mostly marked.

You should still be able to add fondant decorations to most icings, as long as the decoration isn't too heavy.

ive made marshmallow fondant before, and it kept getting hard, so i was having to microwave it so it would get soft again, and eventually it stopped reacting to the heat and got crumbly.
