Would $55 Be Too Much For This Cake?

I just wanted to let everyone know that this cake was done for "free" as a gift to the 70 year old. I posted the thread because as my friend and I were looking at the finished cake, she asked me, "Ok, if we ever get to open our own shop, what would we charge for a cake like this?" I told her I had no idea, but I would post on CC and see what everyone else thought. This cake was made from scratch. The icing was also made from scratch. My best friend spent the better part of a day just mixing and baking this thing. I do appreciate everyone's honest comments. They are very helpful to us. Please just keep in mind that as you read this thread, this was not a paid order. The pricing question is a theoretical "what if" question. If we ever do get to open a shop it will be several years down the road. oh, and the birthday boy absolutely loved this cake, it was exactly what he had wanted when he asked us to do it for him. His wife said that the whole family couldn't get enough of the cake and that there was only one or two pieces of it left after the party; LOL, she had to wrap and hide those.
Since the cake went over so well taste wise, would you be willing to share the recipe with us?
I am glad the birthday "man" enjoyed it.

It's a beautiful cake and since it is from scratch, I don't think your pricing was off. I've easily spent $20 on ingredients for a scratch german choc cake & icing. It's worth every bit of $55.00. Back in the day (whenI was a kid) my mom would bake German Chocoate cakes when we had pool parties...we never had to pay for the pool or the extra money for the lifeguards to work, they all worked for my mom's fried chicken and her german chocoalte cake!
I'll get the recipe from my best friend this weekend and post it.
I just did a 10 inch birthday cake for tomorrow and I charged $40.
German Chocolate cakes are very time consuming and the ingredients are expensive. A 10" cake is big. I think $55 is fair, prolly should be higher for this type cake.
