I was at hobby lobby this morning trying to find some cake things and was wondering if anyone has ever tried using a rubber stamp for embossing?
I saw some larger ones and thought about using them and adding luster dust or something similar on the imprint itself to bring out the design
(i was actually looking at some praying hands for an easter cake)

yes, I've used them several times. I just paint on the uster dust/lemon extract mixture and stamp away!

I used the embossing technique on cookies.

I took a class with Collette once and she showed how to do it. Just dip the stamp in cornstarch or powdered sugar first, knock off the excess, and stamp away. Then you can hit it with luster dust or whatever.

It may take some time to get the pressure right, just experiment a little before trying it on the cake fondant.

Cool. My semi-hobby before cake decorating was stamping. I have tons of stamps that I thought would look cool on a cake, but didn't know how to do it.

Do you stamp fondant, or in the case of the cookies, on the unbaked cookie dough? I have several stamps I have not used yet and this is a very interesting concept.

Quick question: should the stamps be "simple" or can they be "intricate" I'm making a cake for my in-laws and stamping will help save some time and make the cake look good.
