Wow! So many other young people! I'm 24 and I have loved baking forever. I got into cake decorating at 20 when I decided to give my best friend a stellar cake every year for her birthday. The more I did, the more I loved it! I should have gone to culinary school, but I was talked out of it.
I've been making cakes like crazy this year.. this is it! I want to be a cake decorator! ![]()
btw... any of you seen Stranger Than Fiction, yet? The baker in that movie is so freaking cool. ![]()
If I had started decorating when I first developed an interest at 20...but I was too "busy" with other things then, also was taught that artistic things were a "waste of time". By the time I learned that's not true, 10 years had gone by! Congratulations and much encouragement to all of you young decorators! You all have awesome looking cakes!
etigg....I just saw Stranger than Fiction this past week. Very interesting movie....and you're right, the baker was cool!
Also....about the age thing....its' all relative. I definitely felt AND WAS young when I was in my 20's. I'm nearly 36 and have begun to have days when I feel old (but I blame that on my children and lack of sleep rather than my age!).
So far, I've lived out my 30's with much more richness than all my previous years. I hope I can say the same for each passing decade.
Well I am 27 years old. I just hate that it took a B.S. in Psychology and a Masters in Public Affairs for me to realize that I love baking and decorating cakes. I wish I would have spent the money on culinary school.
etigg82 - it's never too late!! I'm 32 and looking foward to starting Culinary school this year for Pastry. When i was much younger i was way too busy working to raise my kids. My oldest son is now 12, so yeah i pretty much started young. I have 3 now, and i'm a single mom. Sorry i know it's not related to the topic. But i guess i'm just trying to say it's never too late.
I just turned 20 and just started decorating cakes about a year ago. I am really enjoying it and hope to go into business someday. Still haven't posted pics though. I don't have a home computer just a computer at my "real" job. lol
I'm 27 but I got my first tips and bags when I was 10. ![]()
My mother did cakes for us when we were kids so she taught me how to do basic stuff. My grandma burned me out on it when I was in high school and didn't really want to be doing that stuff but she'd make me do huge gingerbread buildings.
I had my oldest young and until a couple years ago only did cakes for their birthdays and some holidays but then I started doing it for fun.
I'm 21 and have been decorating since i was about 17. I can relate to people not taking me seriously because of my age. It doesnt help that I look a lot younger than I am either.
I'm 25 and that sounds old to me!
But anyway, I took my first class at either 12 or 13, can't remember which summer it was. I have a large family, so there was always a birthday cake to practice on, but a friend of mine who had take the Wilton classes offered to show me what she had learned. It was so nice to learn the "real" way to do things, not just trying to figure it out from looking at pictures. I love to decorate, but now that I'm expecting my first baby, I'm kinda putting the business part of it on hold.
I am 26 and started making cakes four years ago when my oldest child turned one and everyone told me I HAD to make his first birthday cake myself.. Thank goodness for family, they helped me realize this is what I love doing..
I started at around 8, and was selling to all the hockey parents by 10 (if not younger) By the time I was 13 I was doing all the graduation cakes, birthday cakes for all the families on the team. I certainly did not charge enough and my Mom bought all the supplies and cleaned up after me most of the time. But I did not do sports or other activities and it was cheaper than paying for my brother's to play hockey!!
If you bake it - they will buy it!
hi! i'm 23, i feel old but i started when i was 7. i also did experience the situation that everyone takes you for granted because of your age, even my family, because i'm the only one who manifested an extreme passion for baking and cake decorating in our clan. after taking up b.s. psychology i went back to my passion. i just love it! congratulations young cake decorators... all your cakes are wonderful! ![]()
I'm 33 and just started cake decorating this year, I just wanted to say to the younger ones on here that I wish I had started earlier (I was busy having babies
, LOL, 7 of them). Keep up the good work
, all the ones I have looked at are better than mine.
So 39 would be concidered what???
what about 40 ?
This is the way my mom always said it, she got up in the morning, she was 18, by the time she got to bed, she was...
I celebrated by 18th birthday for the 20th time last august!
The first b-day cake I ever did I was 7, do the math!! anyhow I have been decorating really for 5 years. I love it. Before that I concentrated on Chocolates. Yum!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Good Luck
sweetresults...sounds like what i'm doing now ![]()
i'm 16. most of my cakes go to friends at school. i definately undercharge, but i figured any monetary compensation is better than none at all. my mom pays for all my ingredients and all of my "income" goes into a savings account.
Hey, I am fresh at this too and I took decorating classes a couple years ago and I love it! This is how I release my stress, it cools me down actually! If I am having a bad day, i come home start making a cake and later in the night decorate it! I enjoy it! I am only 24 yrs old, single mother with 2 young children, so it is hard to find time to myself and they enjoy doing there own little cakes themselves! Good luck to everyone else and I enjoy this site! I have been searching for a site like this for a long time!
I'm 15 and lovin cake decorating, i'm also a guy which suprises many people. I started cookie decorating since....i was old enough to know how to fold a piping bag maybe eight years old? Anyways, i have started making cakes since i was twelve. i made my first tier cake last year. But i have NO PIC CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! All those young decorators....HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK.!!!!
I'm 21 and have been doing cake decorating as a job since i was 14... ![]()
