Does anyone have nonchemical way to get rid of ants? I tried wiping my wall with vinager. The ant problem is in my bedroom, not my kitchen. So there is no food in here.

The only other suggestions I got was from my Dad who said to add some Uncles icon_wink.gif Ha Ha icon_razz.gif

If you add the uncles you are going to end up with cousins!
Do you know what kind of ants they are? Certain ants are more risky, as in carpenter ants and you need a professional exterminator to locate the nests. Sometimes there is a problem area around your window where they have a nest area. They will even travel up from the ground or under the siding and look for a way in. Dampness near a window area or underneath the siding can make a nice little home for them. Sometimes you need to re-caulk around the window or have your windows checked. But if they are carpenter ants it is another story.

Edited to add:
Found this natural remedy.
Create liquid bait by mixing 1 tsp. boric acid with 2 1/2 fluid oz. corn syrup or honey. Heat until the boric acid dissolves. In an eyedropper, add equal amounts of water and solution to drop in places ants frequent for 2 weeks.

This one for anthills outside.
Make a natural repellent of citrus peelings and water in a blender and pour it over the anthill.

Pour dry borax around the area for alittle while...well...uhm this works really good at keeping spiders and silverfish (shudder yuck!) at bay...had to do that in my bedroom at our old place...(our neighbors were pigs)

Boric acid, also known as boracic acid is available at pharmacies, drugstores etc. It has a lot of different uses, also used as a mild antiseptic but it is effective in insect control.

You can find borac acid at Ace Hardware too. We use it for our ant problem (in the bedroom too). They have a migration it seems every year. We take equal parts of borac acid and sugar and put a few drops of water to make a paste, and put it in a milk cap or something small. If the ants are grease ants, use the same thing but mix with peanut butter.

Had the same problem last year--exterminator was soming in every quarter but still had them. Wiped counter with Windex with orange oil and that worked for awhile.

My husband checked out numerous websites and learned that anything edible inside and outside could cause them to come in. Even bird food and hummingbird feeders. So after last extermination, got rid of all bird feeders and hummingbird feeders--NO MORE ANTS!!!

I haven't tried this, but it was in my newspaper last year as a tried and true solution. Put grits down. The ants eat them and it swells up inside their tummies, and they, um, explode. icon_eek.gif

No chemicals, but lots of ant guts. icon_lol.gif

You could also try Red Pepper Flakes, they don't like those either. Sprinkle around the area, old wives tale is they wont cross a line of pepper either. Good luck

Two suggestions

Avon has a product called skin so soft, put some on a cotton ball and wipe it along the window sills, counters, where ever they are coming in, I have used this and it works.

I read somewhere that if you use plain chalk and draw a line they won't cross - again, never tried but what can it hurt?

Hope it helps.

I have heard the chalk remedy also but never tried it. I put boric acid on my window sill and under the kitchen sink and it helped. I have a problem with them every Spring.

Dale, do they have ant size steam rollers? icon_lol.gif

I was thinking...maybe get some glazed dounuts...leave em out on the counter. Only, before you leave em on the counter, fill em with lead...then, when the ants come and try to carry them off, they'll hurt their little backs. Problem solved!

You can also use baking powder. Sprinkle it on the floor were they use to have their streets and for some reason they wouldn't cross the powder.

It works and baking powder is something everybody here has at home every time icon_lol.gif

The only disadvantage is that it doesn't look very nice.

Dale, you are such a clever imaginative guy. Are you going to run over them with the steam roller while they are breaking their poor little backs?
