I Did Something Today That I Think Everyone Should Do...

Today I went to an exclusive part of town in the Downtown Portland area and visited 3 Bakeries. I looked at their cakes that they had displayed and took notice of their prices. I now feel much better about my own cakes and the prices that I charge for them. This has definitely done wonders for my self-confidence and would advise anyone else to do the same thing.
Just wanted to share with y'all just in case there are people out there like me that need that little bit of extra confidence building. ![]()

My DH is working out of state for a few weeks, and I went to visit him this past weekend. It's a rather small town, but we did go to the only bakery in town just so I could check out their stuff. Unfortunately, they were closed! ![]()
The only thing she had displayed was a dummy wedding cake, tiered with drapes and a bow on top. I could also see that she had a few wedding toppers (for sale) and a stationery book for wedding invitations I assume. It's so funny though, my hubby didn't even question me about going to check it out - he knows that I'm always thinking about cakes!!
After all, this is my obsession! ![]()
Well, I am no pro
but I was in my local supermarket yesterday and took notice of their cakes, which I never had done before even since I started decorating. Ugh! I could do better, which was shocking!
The roses were centers with circled petals, there was no shape to them at all and the shell borders were horrible. It made me feel better (I know that's wrong!
)
My hubby went to a mom & pop local fast food place and said they sell cakes there. I haven't seen them but he said after looking at their book, my cakes were definitely better.
It just so happened I overviewed my wedding pictures today (oh boy - have I grown óld in those ten years) and saw my own wedding cake. It wasn't smooth at all and the leafes were a strange green colourded mix ... No way near what i've seen here.
It sort of gave me trust that someday (who knows when...) I will be able to create professional looking cakes - at least better than the baker's...
