I've always seen these but never occurred to me to use them for cakes. Great idea. Thanks. Also, some Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores carry cake decorations and popular character figurines that can be used for children's cakes.

I found round plastic cake carriers at my local Dollar Tree. I bought 8 since I couldn't beat the price. I fit the bottom tier of my final cake for Wilton Class 3 in it. It was an 8 inch cake on a 10 inch cardboard circle. It is a little more flimsy than a more expensive carrier, but I thought it would be perfect for carrying cupcakes or round cakes. Thought I would share the information.

Also if you want fillings like lemon, cherry, etc. my local Dollar General has the canned fillings in the cake section for $1.50 a can. It is the same brand you would buy at Walmart or other grocery stores. I haven't had any complaints about my fillings.

I also forgot I found some little plastic characters that would be perfect for the tops of cakes. I found Sesame Street characters (Big Bird, Cookie MOnster, Ernie, and Bert), Nemo characters including the shark, and Winnie the Pooh characters (Winnie, Eeyore, and Tigger). I found these also at Dollar Tree.

Everything at the Dollar Tree is a dollar. I bought several sets for future use.

I forgot to mention that you can also buy doilies for cakes if you use them. At Family Dollar you can find figurines of Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Strawberry Shortcake, Pooh, and several princesses for a dollar. thought I should share.

That is a great find!. I'll be there tomorow.

But I would be cautious about the plastic characters. Unless they are made in the US you will run the risk of the paint having the high lead content like those Fisher Price toys. Thank you for sharing. I love this site icon_wink.gif

Good point ... and I imagine they don't have what the contents of the paint printed on the package! But it should have the country where they were manufactured, right?
