Almost had a cake disaster today. While attempting to put 12" cake on top of 16" cake, the 12" cake slid to the back and almost off the cake. What did I do...I grabbed the cake with both hands.

Just beautiful...Two lovely hand prints in the frosting down to the cake.
I had the flower guy standing behind me and my assistant sucked all the air within 10 feet into her lungs. I thought she was going to cry. I lifted the cake up and said "No problem. It's going to be OK".

Mind you, I had exactly 45 minutes sleep last night finishing up cake orders. So, I pulled out my handy-dandy spatula, container of frosting and VIVA papertowels. Filled in all the finger holes with frosting and then papertoweled it when it crusted. Check the pic "Calla Lilly Illusion". Can ya tell it???

The flower guy told me that I was very professional about it and he was impressed.

Mac,

Your cake is beautiful. That was a great save!
I have seen similar designs while surfing the web.

I have always wondered what you use to hold up the top layer. What type of support is it?

Not a clue that any near-tragedy occurred!!!! I had seen your cakes for the wedding earlier and was very impressed. Great fix! LOL

crp7--
I used part of my acrylic cake stands--each plate has a different heigth of tubing. Cakes were 16", 12" and 8" . Used 12" acrylic plate between 16" and 12" cakes. Cut a center hole in 12" cake for tubing to go thru and into the tubing cup. Used 8" plate on top. I think I used the tube that was 12" high. Hope that helps--Pam

Hey Mac, Just think of this as a "hands on" experience! icon_biggrin.gif You did a beautiful job with this cake and an even better job at saving it. I'm sure your bride was thrilled!
