What would you charge for this cake? Spice cake with a preserve filling. buttercream frosting. She wants it exactly the same. only with out the tree and couple. This photo came from sugarcraft. They have posted instructions for it.

at $3 a serving and then add on a little for labor i would charge at least $400. but i am still new to wedding cakes so maybe someone else has a better way to charge.

I agree with alracntna on that price. The design is simple and you'll have the leaves done in advance, so it isn't TOO labor intensive....$400 will do it!

Thanks...I just wanted to make sure I didn't over price the cake. I just didn't hear back from the bride and thought I priced it to high. I priced it the same.

Thanks again!

She needed it to serve 150 so the cake rounds would be the same as the picture. You know I didn't ask what her budget was. I didn't even think of it. I need to add that to my questions to ask the bride.

My husband has a Restaurant in New York city,
very successfullllll! He has a good head for business and he said, 'Ask what the budget is
and then work around that. I had
a girl who wanted a 5 tiered wedding cake. I looked at the picture and gave her a ball park
price which was a big mistake. She held me to
the price and I was dealing with fondant,
sugar flowers and filling. I ended up making
100$ profit for 13 hours of work. You figure
depending on where you live the price.
I looked at other websites and looked at their
pricing and found they were quite fair.
I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

Personally, for cakes with BC icing I charge $2/head base price, and add on more money for decorations & labour. I start with a base price of $3/head for fondant cakes.
So for the one with the leaves, I would probably charge about $350-$400. It doesn't look very difficult with just the trim & leaves on the BC, but I suppose you would have to use dowels & boards between each layer, so that adds on some $ too.
But that's just me! It depends a lot on where you live. Good luck icon_smile.gif

I would suggest in addition to finding out the bride's budget that you figure out what it's going to cost you to make the cake. We can all give you a price range of what we would charge based on how much we pay for our ingredients and other materials in our location but that might not necessarily work for your location.

I always ask what the budget is. If I really want the order I can usually fit their budget. Usually I get $2.50 a slice for BC. That is very cheap for this city. Average is approx. $4.00.
