I am new to the cake decorating, I have seen on the site that alot of people talk about a cake extender. Could someone please tell me what this and what it does to a cake and hoe it helps a cake? Sorry for all the questions. I have really learned alot from this site and I love it and all the cakes are so pretty, and yes this cake site is VERY ADDICTIVE. Thank you all for yoor help... A cake extender is a recipe you follow to add ingrediants to a dry mix to make it taste more like a scratch cake and makes the batch bigger.

I forgot to mention that the cake extender is available in the recipe section.

Might I also suggest the "Enhanced Cake Formula" which I prefer to the Extender, try both and see what you think!

I just used the cake extender recipe for the first time off of this site about two weeks ago. It was very easy to follow and I used a boxed white cake mix to go with it. The biggest thing I noticed about the cake was that when it finally got cut, it did not crumble like my other cakes do. Not that they fall apart or anything, but before when I would use a boxed cake mix you would cut it and there were be a lot of little crumbs coming off the inside of the cake. With the extender recipe it gave a much firmer cake and that made cutting it easier.
