FROM EATING?!?!?

This is crazy, I have gained so much weight since I've started this. How do you guys keep yourselves from eating everything?

I don't know what to say. I find that the more cakes I make, the less inclined I am to eat them! (But then I have a week when I don't make any cakes, and all I do is crave cake! Go figure!)

My son and almost daughter in law helped me with a 3-day catering event. On day 2, they brought their own food and told me,"Mom we noticed that you don't eat when you work these, so we brought our own lunch!" On wedding/catering days, hubby is in charge of making sure I have breakfast or lunch. How does that explain why I'm fat? Because I don't have time to cook and eat a real meal, so I eat food that's bad for me.

As I explain to my friends: "My husband is married to a caterer .... so OF COURSE we live on fast food!" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I know what you mean. I quit working in June to stay home with the kids and I gained forty pounds in six months. I am low carbing now and have lost thirty, but it sure is hard being around sweets dieting.

Pop a piece of gum in your mouth before you start and keep refreshing your gum until the last of the cake and icing is put away. This is what I did when I used to arrange hundreds of cookies on trays. Broken cookies had to go SOMEWHERE. The gum kept them out of my mouth.

Good question indeed! Here are a couple of tricks:

1. Brush your teeth right before you start decorating. Just like the gum idea, this will keep your mouth fresh and you won't be inclined to muss it up with sugary tastes.

2. Find a beverage that you really enjoy and have it on hand while you are decorating. I really love hot chocolate, and occasionally when I am decorating I will have a hot chocolate to keep me "satisfied" so I don't eat all the frosting. Of course hot chocolate has plenty of sugar and calories, but near as much as I would consume if I ate all the spoonfulls of batter and chocolate frosting I am inclined to eat.

3. A muzzle? icon_wink.gif

Here lately, I've been tasting and spitting. Sounds weird, but it has actually been working for me very well...I'm down 26 pounds since I started eating healthy on Feb. 21st. icon_smile.gif

Just today I baked a super moist yummy yellow cake and had to try it. Bite, chew, enjoy, spit. icon_smile.gif

I found that after I started baking cakes, that my desire to even eat a slice was gone.. I thought I'd get sick if I even had to taste test the icing.. make everyone else in the house try it...
Wear latex gloves when icing... no licking the fingers then.
Now when I'm doing cookies, that's a whole different matter.. I love my cookies, but now I only make what my order calls for plus 10 extra in case of breakage... if one breaks it goes right into the garbage.. otherwise i will eat it..

Thank you! icon_biggrin.gif I feel like a new person inside, and I guess because I'm so highly motivated to continue, the tasting/spitting thing is actually working...I'm satisfied enough to get the taste but don't want it going in my body. I hope this continues!! It would be bad for my cake business to drop dead of a heart attack before 40. LOL icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone! I'm going to have to try the gum and brushing teeth right before. Nothing tastes good right after brushing your teeth! I'll have to try the taste and spit method, too.

I don't know why but even after my super busy weekends with lots of cakes when I finish I want a piece of cake, too!!

I partially blame this site for my gain, too. I am sitting reading this so much that I'm not nearly as active as usual. So guess what? I'm looking at cakecentral right now and walking on my treadmill. It makes the hour go by much faster!

Way to go Cakepro! That's wonderful!

heres my secret: im training for a half marathon. i easily burn 2000 calories a week just from running, and more when i lift (weights that is). then, when i eat two pieces of cake instead of one, or make several practice cakes that i have to taste test, i don't feel bad! (and i don't gain weight)

I was bad about snacking when I worked in a bakery (more because we didn't get regular breaks). When I make stuff at home, I really don't have much of an appetite for it. Theres many a cake I've made that I never eat even a piece of. Even my birthday cake, it was really good, but I don't think I'll be eating any of the left overs.

Please DON'T wear latex gloves! To many people they are life-threatening!
PLEASE wear a NON-latex glove...

I'm one of those people who don't eat or taste when I'm cooking. The smells seem to be good enough for me. However, if there is cake in the house later I will eat it.

I'm trying to eat healthy and get in all the fruits and veggies that they tell you to. Since I've been doing this I have no desire for sweet things. Getting enough sweet from the fruits I guess.

You're right.. Thanks for the reminder. I will have to go out and buy some non latex gloves. I only use them when I'm holding the icing bag, but I still think you're idea is good.
Thanks!
