Hey! I'm new here and this is my first post. How exciting ![]()
so here's my question - I tried looking for directions for poured icing on sugar cookies, but didn't have any luck. Around here (Georgia) our Publix sells these large cookies that have a poured icing over them. The icing has a "crust" but is pretty soft under that. They haven't outlined the cookie and then filled in with icing, it's just poured on.
Is any of this making sense and could someone help point me in the right direction, please? Thanks!! BTW, I love CC!!!!
The only thing I've ever poured is chocolate ganache. you know, i bet if you ask one of the nicer decorators at the publix bakery, they would tell you how they do it. they were very helpful to me when i tried my first attempt at whipped cream.
Good luck, wish i could be of more help.
I am looking for the same thing. I CAN'T find the exact recipe anywhere. We have a local bakery that makes these delicious butter cookies with a poured icing over the top. The icing dries very very shiny, kind of crusts over on the top, but is soft underneath. It isn't moist or wet. Dry to the touch, but not hard like Royal icing. It isn't that overly sweet icing either. I don't know how else to explain it. There are no outlines on the cookies. Actually the icing is poured completely over the sides. I asked about the recipe at the bakery, but they wouldn't budge on the name of it or the recipe for it. ![]()

I tried to explain that I didn't want to sell it, just make some at home since I would be moving away. Still didn't help. ![]()

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have tried several recipes from this site, but haven't quite found the one. the only one so far that comes close is the Faux Poured Fondant , but that is very hard and too sweet.
Sounds like you need a glaze icing. I just tried Toba Garrett glaze. Heres the recipe:
1lb. 10x confectioner's sugar
3/8 cup milk ( I didn't have any whole milk so I used 1/2 & 1/2 creamer.
3/8 cup light corn syrup
Flavor optioins: 1 tsp. clear concentrated extract., 1 tbsp. alcohol or liqueur, or 2-3 drops concentrated candy oil
I actually just tried it last night at midnight and at 8 a.m. when I got up it's pretty dry to the touch, very shiny, and isn't very sweet.
good luck !

I ditto the glaze, look in my gallery at the shiney cookies, that's what i use then detail w/ antonias royal icing. Easy to make and work with. Just make sure to let them dry 24 hours befor bagging. Also make sure to sift pwd. sugar and thin with corn syrup to get consistancy you want. Happy baking,
Amy
