Stacking Cake ?

If I'm putting a 4" (2 layer) round on top of a 8" ,do I use dowels?

Destini -

It's always better to be safe than sorry about stacking cakes. you could just use straws, it'll provide some stability and won't require as much work (and it's cheaper).

i dowel all the time even with half ball pans on top of another- just to be safe and also because you will have the security of knowing there is extra support there which buys time in decorating and in how long the cake survives after its finished icon_smile.gif

I am by no means an expert, but I would definately dowel this cake.
