I got a corned beef cut brisket on mistake icon_eek.gif and the recipe calls for a fresh beef brisket...on the bottom of the recipe it says not to use a corned beef cut icon_mad.gif (thought I was getting a good deal at 8.00). I am doing this in the oven as a barbecue brisket to be sliced and served on buns...will this still be ok or do I need to start over? Please rescue me and tell me it will be ok lol...I would hate to start all over! And also if you have any good recipes for a oven type brisket recipe please share!

TIA
Christi

My gut reaction is to tell you start over. I love corned beef dinner, so to me it seems a shame to risk ruining it. Serve boiled dinner instead.

in my experience what makes it corned beef is the packet. brisket is a tough meat anyway, just don't add teh seasoning and cok foir a long time. this is just my suggestion. hope this helps.oh and at a low temp. you may have alot of shrinkage, because they do tend to be fattier then a normal brisket, but i think it will be ok. hope this helps.

LOL, my husband should be home to answer your questions because the man loves to slow cook briskets - tenderly checking on them every hour for 24+ hours! The longer you cook brisket, the better it becomes!

Since he's not here to reply to your post, hopefully this might help you: http://homecooking.about.com/od/beef/a/brisketcuts.htm

Since nobody has said it so far let me just say DO NOT try to turn corned beef into bbq brisket. Won't happen, can't happen, sorry! Corned beef is basically pickled. So ask yourself if you want pickled bbq beef (eew). If you don't want corned beef anytime soon, just put it in the freezer for another time.

Sorry....I had to laugh when I read this one!!! icon_lol.gif

I did the EXACT same thing when I first got married! icon_redface.gif My husband kept raving about brisket and wanted me to make it. I am not a big meat eater...so to me it all looked the same! I came home with corn beef brisket and when DH came home, he wrinkled up his nose and said, "What is that smell??" He just chuckled when he realized it was not beef brisket.

It took me awhile to get up the nerve to ever try it again....but when I did, let me just say.....oh my gosh!!!! Love the stuff!!!!

I just made it last week and I could eat it till I feel sick to my stomach! It is my favorite meal! My hubby just laughs at me when I fill my plate up with it! icon_rolleyes.gif

I have to agree with the others.....start over. You'll be sooooo glad you did! thumbs_up.gif

Sorry this happened to you. what you bought and what you wanted are
about the same . corned beef is cured in a brine. beef brisket is just plain beef . how to choose a good brisket have the fat side down and bend it in half.if both ends meet then it is a good brisket. Everyone here has to smoke thiers on a pit. me I put mine in a cooking bag. I cook itin the oven about 4 hours on 325. what make a good brisket is the seasonings you use. corned beef I use pickling spice on the beef brisket I use a bbq rub. hope this helps. thumbs_up.gif
