Also, do you prefer to do 1/2 of one mixed with 1/2 of another?

Oooops ~ gumpaste was suppose to be one of the choices ~ Sorry!

If you vote for something else please let us know what you use.

Thank you so much! thumbs_up.gif

I need to make some roses (eg. rose spray) for an upcoming cake and there are so many beautiful ones in the gallery. I've tried white chocolate clay and they turned out good but it's getting summertime and I'm afraid they'll melt icon_sad.gif . I tried gumpaste and didn't do too well but that was about 3 years ago. I'd like to try them again icon_smile.gif

I voted for 'other' because I use gumpaste. I urge you to try it again. This time, use a little bit of gumtex in the paste and I think you will like your results. It makes it more elastic and they dry harder and are less likely to break. You can make them very realistic this way.

I voted other. I make mine of straight gumpaste, and in fact am working on some roses this evening.

Gumpaste here also, but I also like to mix gumpaste with fondant sometimes.

By the way, I voted other as well.

I use gumpaste. Fondant doesn't hold the shape as quickly and as long as gumpaste.

Gumpaste, unless it's ribbon roses, then I do fondant. That could change as I progress. Gumpaste is the only thing I've had success at. Buttercream defies me, no matter what I try, I get jagged edges on them.

I voted fondant, but want to try the 50/50 so it will set up better/quicker. There are a lot of gumpaste votes! I've never tried it, but am going to find out how and give it a shot when I can. I stink at BC, never had a class as it costs money and is usually scheduled when I can't go. I have to stick with things that work like clay, as I seem to be able to make some decent shapes that way!

The roses are finished. They were for an anniversary cake this past weekend. I made them out of gumpaste and added gumtex like cheftracy suggested. Some folks at the party thought they were real. Thank you all for participating in this poll and for encouraging me to try gumpaste again. thumbs_up.gif You all are GREAT!
