I started covering my cake boards with gift wrapping paper but now I have a question. Should I be covering the gift wrapping paper with contact paper? I wouldn't think that the ink from the gift wrap paper would get onto the icing/cake (none have so far) but I don't know. What do any of you know about this?

Hmmmm... What does contact paper look like? And where do you buy it?
Craft stores carry them too. Aside from ink transferring and the oils spreading onto the paper, I think there is an issue that some wrapping papers aren't "food grade" quality. Some wrapping papers have metals in them to get the metallic looks. The contact paper also holds up to cutting the cake. Sometimes the paper can rip from a serrated knife.
Thank you everyone. This is nice to know. I'll go get me some contact paper and start covering with that also ![]()

If you have a decent dollar store in your area you might find it there too. That's way you can pick up 2 or 3 rolls for the tame price you would find it at Wal-mart.
