I have tried using fondant a couple times to cover my cakes, but everytime it rips on the sides. I am very careful, but I just don't know what I am doing wrong.
I am using Wilton ready to use rolled fondant, so I don't know if that matters. And I took the Wilton fondant class...I am following all the instructions we were given.
Please help! I love the look of fondant, but at this point I am ready to throw in the towel.
Are you rolling the fondant too thin? Maybe try rolling it a little thicker.
Yeah, too thin, and it will tear. Also make sure you have more than enough rolled out to cover the cake. Your better off cutting off what you don't need, rather than stretching it too thin, to make it to the edges. You'll get it!
It sounds to me like you are using a fondant that just wont do the job.
Get rid of it and try fondx or RTR pettinice.
I've been using fondant for years and the only time I had problems with it ripping is when I was out of RTR and used the supermarket brand we have here in Australia. It was awful! I couldn't even pick the stuff up off my pastry sheet without ripping it! I threw it out and will NEVER use it again.
That sounds like your problem, try a better fondant and I'm sure you will find it mush easier. Good luck with it ![]()
