OK, can anyone at least tell me if 60 dollars sounds way too much?
I don't want to rip anyone off or horrify them!!
It's pretty big, bigger than it looks. Everything is from scratch and sculpted. Face and accents are MMF....Chocolate cake with banana cream filler.

I have to let them know tonight!

$60 can't be too much, you'd pay $40 for an ice cream cake that size from baskin robbins and there's no sculpting or making mmf. That's just my opinion

Go for $60. Your price is your price. icon_biggrin.gif People will pay it. If not, offer to make something else within their price range.

I'd say for SURE no lower than $60! I've seen six inchers go for $20!! The cake is beautiful with a LOT of time and materials invested. I have a problem undercharging myself too, so I'd say at least $60-maybe even $75! Good luck!

Then think 75 and ask for 65. You won't feel like you settled, hopefully.

Thank heavens you guys started replying!! I seriously would have ended up saying like 30 dollars.... I must have spent at least 20 on materials! I think I'll say 60. I love the upper suggestions but what can I say? I'm weak LOL

It's very worth it. It was fun to do icon_smile.gif

I think that $60.00 is to little. I charged $60.00 for my dora cake (in my photos) and it was only a couple of small round cakes. This thomas cake is worth much more. I think that I would charge something like $80.00 or even more. You are underpricing yourself way toooooo much. I learned that the hard way. People are more willing to pay for a good cake than you think they are. Think about it they will pay $30 or $40 for there local Mart cake and be happy with that so imagine what they will pay for a cake that was made to there likeing and with love and passion.

$60.00 is not enough, honey try $80.00

Don't be afraid to tell them your prices. You are good at what you do and deserve to be paid for all your hard work. My price for that cake would be $75-$85. thumbs_up.gif

65.00 at least

I always tell customers not to expect a
sculpted cake for under 55.00

i would go atleast 75.00..I have never done one like this but I can imagine what you have in it ,time and money, so dont under sell yourself. You do great work and deserve to get paid for it, if they dont like your price let them go get a nasty sheet cake for 40.oo from a bakery where it is hard to tell how old and the icing usually taste like wax.

Ok, you guys are going to chew me up but I think those prices are too high.

I would have to say $40 or $50.

Your cake is absolutely georgous. I would say that $60 should be your minimum. How big is it and how many will it serve?

I found this web site that makes sculpted cakes and they charge $5.50 to $8.00 per serving!!!
http://www.lapatisseriecapemay.com/specialoccasioncakes.html
There are other places too that charge that much.

So think about it and dont feel bad about getting paid for your ingredients, electricity, all your stuff and of course your time. I am guessing that it took you longer than 8 hours to design, prep. bake, and decorate your cake. Would you work in a store and make this for less than $5.00 per hour.

I have the same problem when it comes to pricing it's difficult to think that your work can be worth it.

I hope you stick to your price. Good Luck.

Thanks so much guys! What a great response.

I have been reading what you all have to say and staring at the cake and I just let the recipients know I would like 65 for it. I did mention though that if they were over joyed with it they could add a tip! lol

I ALMOST went for the whole 75 thing and probably would have if it had been bigger - like an extra wagon or something. I'm comfortable with my decision because I always put my heart and soul into my cakes whether they look like it or not!

Again, thanks for your input! I really appreciate it. icon_smile.gif

P.S, special thanks to those who posted the really high numbers!! You made my day!

What I normally do is take the material cost and triple it to get a rough idea of what to charge - obviously the more complicated and detailed the work the more expensive its going to be.

Charging what your talent and time is worth is really hard - don't under sell you talent.!

Hello,
Don't get frustrated. I think $60.00 is a deal, I used the molded 3D pan for Thomas and charged $60 and it was way smaller than yours! So I think $75 would be good!! NICE job by the way! AWESOME icon_biggrin.gif

I have this problem too. I am the queen of $35.00 cakes. It's so hard to do a cake for a deal and then not always offer the same deal.

Hi, I know this is a few days late, I just found this cake on a Grocery Store Web site.
They charge $52.00 for theirs. So you priced your well. And I like yours better!
