I want to put some green in a white cake. Can I poke holes in the top of the cake and pour green Jello inside? Would that work? I have a shamrock shape cake and thought the kids would like the green inside. Or does anyone have anyother ideas?
THANKS and HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY TO EVERYONE

Sure that'll work. I remember years ago when poke cakes were really popular. Here's one I found with Google.
JELLO POKE CAKE
1 white cake mix
1 (3 oz.) pkg. Jello
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. cold water
Cool Whip
Prepare cake as directed in an oblong cake pan. Cool pan 15 minutes. Poke cake with fork for small holes, or handle of wooden spoon for larger holes, every 1/2 to 1 inch. Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add cold water. Spoon over the cake slowly so the Jello mixture soaks into the holes. Chill 3 to 4 hours. Top with Cool Whip.
I remember doing those! They are so easy and so yummy!! Kids love them - especially with the Cool Whip on top. We'd do a faux strawberry shortcake with that recipe using white cake and strawberry jello. We'd top it with Cool Whip and slices of strawberry. I let the kids help, because it really is an easy project for them!!
You could turn the entire cake green by just mixing it in with your cake mix and adding some extra liquid and another egg. I've made a key lime cake this way using 1 box cake mix, 1 box lime (green) jello, 4 eggs, 3/4 oil, 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup lime juice. But you can use all milk (1 cup) if you don't want the extra lime flavor. The cake will be a very bright green.
