How exactly do you put fabric ribbons on buttercream? I think I read somewhere that you have to put wax paper under the ribbon. Is that right? Are they attached in the back with a straight pin?

Yes, I would attach a strip of wax paper behind the ribbon to prevent the grease from seeping through. You could attach with a blob of buttercream. Not sure if I would use pins, but I know I've seen some who do it that way. HTH

It wouldnt hurt to put wax paper behind the ribbon. It depends on when you apply the ribbon and how long it will be on the cake before it will be served.

I have put ribbon around cakes before and it attaches easily with buttercream.

well we put the wax paper behind the ribbon to keep the oils in the bc from bleeding through and ruining the ribbon as for attaching them usually just a small dab of bc or you can use a straight pin. just make sure that everyone knows that it is there.
