Ok heres the deal, my SIL called me this morning and she wants me to do the sport stacking appreciation cake. This is where the kids go to compete in speed stacking cups. She wants me to do a sheet with cake cups , 2 on bottom and one on top. Is this possible. I have the extra deep cup cake looking pan (but its not cupcakes). If so how would you stack the cups? And how would you support? This is due end of April so I thought I would go ahead and think about this one.

TIA
Christi

I had seen in the galleries, someone had stacked baby blocks the way you are describing how you want to stack your cups. If no one here gets you an answer, maybe go look in the pics and find that one and PM the person to ask how they got the blocks to stay that way? Sorry I can't help, but wanted to bump you again, so you didn't have to do it=) GL, Jen

If you can make cakes that are in the shape of cups, you could wrap them in fondant and decorate that way. Then take skewers or long lollipop sticks and angle them so that the bottom two cups have skewers running at angles through them as well as the cup on top--and also down into the sheet cake.

You could also just do styrofoam or rice crispy treats wrappd in fondant and do the same thing w/the skewers. That would be much easier to balance and I'm sure she would understand.

WILTON HAS A NEW KING SIZE CUP-CAKE PAN. TRY USING THAT AND USE A SMALL CAKE BOARD BETWEEN THE CUPS AND DOWEL THRU THE CUPS AND INTO THE SHEET CAKE. THAT SHOULD WORK WELL. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with wrapping in fondant or doing RCT and wrapping in fondant so that they are sturdy, the nice things about the RCT is that you can mold them in acutal cups if you want them more to scale, once dried somewhat they would be pretty sturdy w/minimal staking-I like the bamboo sticks idea, don't be afraid to do another tier or 2 like I did in my House of Cards cake in my photos, just assemble on site. Way cool, wanna see it when your done!!

I was thinking that you might also be able to bake the cups in terra cotta pots. You can easily find the right shape and you wouldn't have to do much.

You can bake cake batter in ice cream caone cups, dip them in choc. or cover with fondant, turn upside down and use skewers to stack them together. Angle two skewers through the top cup, one into each of the bottom two, and skewer through the bottom two into the cake below.
