It looks great! All I can think of is maybe to randomly write teacher speak on the cake layers to make it look like a chalkboard. Don't know if that's possible on your surface though. Is that fondant?
But Good Job. It's a clean and beautiful cake!
yeah I am still planning to write ABC 123 around on the "chalkboard" and then some little balls for borders (i think same color as the apples)
I love it...and you know what else would be cute? A little piece of chalk laying on it. But I think it is very well done!
yeah, I just thought of that a few minutes ago and am making some out of white fondant to start drying out. this cake has been so much fun
It's wonderful, I love it. VERY cute idea.
Forgot to say, I don't have any other suggestions other than what the other ladies already said.
lol - what else do you want us to say? I think it's insane good and if you do the white A B C 123 in a 'kid' font around it, it will be perfect. Seriously, this one goes in my happy spot....... really an awesome cake. And I don't think it needs any more than the chalkboard effect you are going to add...it's perfect. You should be very proud of yourself.
So now I have 2 questions....is that black fonndant mixed or painted and what is the apples on top? A topper of some sort?
Lookin' good.... Maybe you could use a stencil and some royal icing to do some writing on the chalk boards. This is a concept.
brilliant. I love your cake.
I wouldn't do anything to it, its prefect.
Please post a photo once its finished.
Well Done
I LOVE this cake, can´t wait to see the finished product, your fondant is so smooth!!!! I bet you will get LOTS of orders from this one cake!
I agree!! It's a great cake! All it needs is writing on the chalkboard and it will look completely pulled together.
Angie
Looks good, the writing on the black will look great. You mention putting a border, I think you can does not need that border once you do the writing and lay the chalk down on the cake it will look great.
little balls for borders (i think same color as the apples)
Don't do too much more. I am super impressed with it now. Chalk and the writing may be enough.
Along with the writing on the chalkboard, how about a 3 or 5 small colorful books laying around on the layers? Just simple Dick & Jane type books.
LOVE THE CAKE! It is awesome!!
Wow! You get an A+!
Write on the "chalkboard" and add a piece of chalk and in my opinion, it's a done deal.
little balls for borders (i think same color as the apples)

I agree. The ruler border rocks and the other stuff you have plans will complete it w/o it looking too busy. I really think it's perfect.
I agree with everyone...don't over do this cake, it looks amazing in its simplicity and doesn't need much more because it is incredible! The chalk writing will be wonderful!
the apples on top are just some fake fruit and little pencils that I bought at michaels and the just attached them together. My thought for the small (and I mean pretty small) ball border around the top and bottom of the ruler is because my ruler is a little uneven around the top, so I am trying to hide that a little, should I maybe only go around the top of the ruler? or go ahead and do small around top and bottom (just of the ruler)? thanks everyone, this has been so much fun, this is my 3rd fondant cake and it is getting so much easier. I am just editing this now, I just did some of the balls I was talking about, they are not attached yet what do you all think? Should I take it around just on top or top and bottom. thanks everyone
I think you should leave the balls off the top of the border (too busy) even though you said it's a little uneven, I can't tell but it may add some character to the whole look. i would do the balls on the bottom of the ruler in different sizes all the way around. Your giving me inspriration to do something like this myself. Thanks. And this is looking fantastic!
IMHO, I don't like the balls.....I think it makes it too busy. I think your ruler is fantastic and although you are seeing some unevenness, I think it's looks perfect. Sometimes we are so focused on noticing our own flaws, we don't see how good it is...and it is really good!
Looking again at the cake and definately leave the balls off the top and make smaller ones on the bottom so they don't take away from the ruler. Again a few chalk abc and 123 on the chalk board and someone else had a great idea for a book maybe leaning against it?
Hope we're helping.
I also don't like the balls at all, too busy. I really think with the writing on the side of the cake and a few pieces of chalk on placed where you have the large balls on it will be perfect.
I also think the ruler is great, I can't tell in the pic that it's not even.
I can't wait to see it with the writing!
the uneven of the ruler is more on to the sides and in the back here is a picture of either side (which I hate to show cause it really shows my flaws lol) the bottom of the ruler is not that bad - should I maybe just put a black royal icing rim around the top of the ruler to even it out (nothing real over powering)?
great idea for a book maybe leaning against it?
Oh this would be cute Maybe even a "pointer" (you know one of those long thin wooden sticks for pointing at the board with).
DON"T TOUCH IT!!!!!!! In my opinion the first picture of the cake is PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cake rocks...I would not write on the "chalk board".
I'm not crazy about the balls either. I looked and looked and still can't see any uneveness of the ruler. I think it looks great now and with the ABC and 123s on it, it will be awesome. Great job! You get an A+
lol - ask and you shall receive! I think the black trim around the ruler is a good idea, if it will make you feel better, but not necesary. I also think the little book idea ( like a black and white composition book or dictionary ) is so cute too. This cake is really inspiring....I think the teachers (or whomever this is for) are going to wet themselves.
Fantastic idea for a cake.........
If you feel you have to straighten the rulers - use the black RI rim. No balls - too busy.
Just do the chalkboard writing and keep it simple - it is a fabulous cake!
