I have a recipe that calls for grated lemon peel. I have the lemons but I don't have a grater. Is there another way to grate the lemon peel?

i assume you mean a lemon zester???

You can use the fine side of a normal grater... that you use for other grating.

I use a cheese grater. one with small holes. you could try just mincing it with a knife.

Would a potato peeler (light pressure so you don't get the pith) work?

Actually I just found that I have a round parmesan cheese grater. Will that work? You know...the crank handle type.

Nothing makes a failure but a try. At least if it doesn't work, you will have found how NOT to grate lemon peel! icon_biggrin.gif

Use a paring knife to thinly peel & put in a (small) food processor/chopper?

Thank you everyone!! My parmesan cheese grater worked just fine. However, it was difficult to get it out since the thing is like a circular tube. I think I'll be investing in a grater thingie! LOL

I am glad you found something that worked. THe potato peeler idea and then chopping would have worked as well.

You sure do need to get yourself a lemon zester and also a grater.... what do you normally do for grated cheese, carrot and other such ingredients in recipes??? just curious

I always purchase already grated cheese icon_smile.gif And I have never used carrots in a recipe yet but I plan on it one day because I love carrot cake!!

you will find the best, sharpest and finest method of zesting garlic, citrus peel, parmesan cheese, etc. is a "rasp" from the hardware store. Much much easier and finer.

A rasp is indeed a wonderful tool, but this is my favorite for grating whole nutmegs, zesting citrus, etc. I use this one for small jobs of grating anything else. Love them!!

I am a little partial here since I sell Pampered Chef... but our microplane grater is AWESOME for lemon grating or parmesan... it's so cool! I love it... it makes it so much easier then the crank tube one (which we sell too btw) but for zest it's perfect! icon_biggrin.gif
