Allison has a great camo cake in her album. She also explained how she did it under the comments. Looked really smooth so I thought it was fondant but it's done with buttercream. Here is the link:

you can check out the camo in my photos. I used rice paper printed with a camo image. frosting sheets would work better i think.

hope this helps

Hi cdstem,

I have a camo cake with a tank in my photos. I did it with buttercream. I filled bags with the colors I wanted and used tip 12 to make the squiggly lines, and to fill in the area. Then I used a spatula to spread it out flat, and then went back and smoothed with a Viva towel.

A very easy way to do it is just to fill your bags with the colors and star tip the entire cake if you do not want to make it smooth. I am making a hummer on Wednesday and I am just going to star tip the whole thing with the camo colors.

Unfortunately not. If any of your bakeries or grocery stores print on icing sheets they are usually very helpful and will charge you a minimal price.

I used some chocolate frosting and some buttercream - in it's true color and colored some green- and just put the frosting on in "patches" - and swirled it together some to blend. It was easy and really looked good. I suppose you could color the icing brown too...and skip the chocolate but, the people I did the cake for liked the combo together. Hope that was helpful.

The camo tank I posted yesterday was done using stars and buttercream/chocolate buttercream icing. I have to say that Allison's cake looked great in the smooth camo though!

I have also piped different colors with the star tip on a cake I did for my hubby's birthday. I actually got out his hunting jacket and just sort of free-handed the design. He loved it!
