Yah..I agree...I enjoy getting all of my stuff from one location. I had my wedding cake make there approx. 4 years ago...I couldn't afford a custom cake after I looked around for local people...I got a 3 tier cake for $80.00 (couldn't spend over $125)...I wanted a plain jane cake and I added fresh flowers to it. I think I got a good deal...everyone loved the cake and wanted to know who was the local baker I got it from...I gave the big ol WM props. So yeah I had a good experience but then again I added my own touches. Now I am getting the hang of this and hopefully I can help someone on a budget one day.

It isn't the big companies that drive smaller businesses out of town, it's the people who shop there. We all are the ones that go to walmart or target and not the small shops so if anyone is to blame it is the people. How do you think these companies grew to be so big...but if these smaller businesses truly are good ones they will survive. They do have loyal customers who prefer going there for different selection, smaller crowds and so on. They will make it no matter who comes to town. I am always hearing alot of people complaining about this but they are the same people I see shopping at Walmart everytime I am there!

I hate Walmart. I would never buy store bought cakes. I worked at Sam's Club as a cake decorator for a little over a year. I was told I had to decorate 10 cakes per hour. That was a requirement. I was told that customers don't decorate cakes so they don't know what cakes are suppose to look like decorated. I was told to just throw frosting on the cakes and not take the time to make sure that the names are spelled right. I quit when I was told to take the expired cakes out of the cake display and instead of throwing them out, I was suppose to retime them. Put a different expiration date on the cakes. Alot of Walmart and Sam's Clubs do not bake their own cakes. They all come in frozen. Sorry about the long post. I really hate Walmart!!!!!

You must have gotten a bad manager. The Sams here bakes their own stuff - I've watched them. Not only do they make sure to deal with the customer, I wasn't even buying at the time and they told me everything they were putting in their blueberry muffins. I made quite the annoyance of myself and they were absolutely delightful.

I respect your decision not to go back, but I have had a completely difference experience with the Sams near my house. Just as with anything, there are good and bad apples.

Sometimes I think some of these people don't know what a beautiful cake looks like, some people don't know what fondant is, it is not that they like those cakes is just that they don't know any better that's what I think

I refuse to eat a cake that is bought from any store such as Wally World. If it is not homemade or bought from a REAL bakery - it is not worth the calories and will not enter my mouth. I think some people think I am snobby but I don't care! They shouldn't be so cheap or lazy. Thats MHO anyway.

I didn't get my cake there....actually a lady that worked for me did. Some people can't afford a custom cake or their aren't alot of people that bake and decorate cakes in their area. If they want to buy a cake from walmart.....who cares? And the people that work there.....they want to work there. Nobody makes them. And I also think that they have more than 5 minutes to do a cake! I know your cakes.....and mine....taste better and look better but people know what they are getting when they go there!

my niece and nephew in law did too...and in fact a lot of their decorations, and things too... it was an absolutely beautiful wedding..... not everyone can afford a big wedding, and I (before I really got into decorating) got my wedding cake from Publix in Nchas SC.... it was very nice, very good, AND even the first year cake after being frozen for a year was really good.. but I also must say my cakes taste better (but of course thats being snooty icon_lol.gif)

Now also, everyone has an opinion about everything, all we should do as humans and fanatics about our decorating and our cakes is understand that and be respectful....

I totally agree there too.... I too worked at Sam's Club bakery (among other areas) and they were very strict that they wanted quality, and we baked our own cakes.....

I'm sorry to say when my kids were growning up I bought some of their cakes from a local Dougnut shop. Not only were they yummy but very nicely decorated and they would do any design you wanted.

Later we found a woman that did cakes from her home, we called her the cake lady. Her cakes were good and reasonable. She was so busy you had to give her at least two weeks notice even for a 1/4 sheet cake.

Cupcakegirl27.......you must have worked in a horrible store! I am here to say that not all stores are like that though. You should have went above your management and talked to a DM because that isn't how it is supposed to be. Although there were some things that I didn't agree with (and I let everyone know it too!) I really enjoyed my job. I actually cried when I decided to quit. Walmart does get their cakes in frozen....I don't think they are horrible but I would much prefer one of mine or another homemade one. icon_smile.gif

Yea...I agree I wouldn't get a cake from there now...but that was all I knew back then...and I was not CHEAP, I just couldn't afford any better at the time...there's a difference in being cheap and not being able to afford stuff...but now I know...and I have GREAT FRIENDS on CC that I learn new stuff everyday!!

Thanks CC! thumbs_up.gif

Why...why dear Lord are people flocking at these places?!?! Have they all gone mad?? If you are looking for cheap and convenient well so be it then.
I have to say I feel sorry for those poor girls that work there.
There is one in our front yard...almost literally! People flock to get their donuts when a 4 minute drive would get you mouthwatering donuts from an actual donut shop. What makes me sad is they are the same price and the RR donuts are homemade daily! Ok, I'm hungry now....I just had to vent.

Round Rock donuts.....
aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!! I'm drooling......

Laura are you from Round Rock? Their donuts freakin' rock!!!

I have to tell everyone about what I did in school last August. I was picked from the whole school to be a cook for the Wal-Mart photo shoot. I worked with a food stylist and the photographer. I was supposed to be the prepcook but they terminated the baker and moved me to baker II. There are 5 different regions/cookbooks Wal-Mart printed. If you ever go to Wal-Mart and see their cookbooks in the produce isle, look at the pics. I may probably baked some of their desserts and prepped a lot of the food. My favorite cookbook is the one that is here in TX. I made the cheesecake on the cover. I was so proud of that. It tasted darn good too. I probably wouldn't recommend some of the recipe but the pics are really good.
