I LOVE SWEETS!!! Tell you what - this girl can put away a huge bag of chocolates in a few hours. I only see my boyfriend on weekends, so one Saturday we'll get a 1lb bag of M&M's to snack on, and I'll do my best to behave myself while he's here - but as soon as he leaves to go back home, the whole bag just disappears. And then the next weekend he'll have the nerve to ask where I put the M&M's, and I'm like - seriously, after 4 years, you should know by now that those things don't last a day in my house!! It's so frustrating b/c he'll just have ONE piece of candy or not even a whole piece of cake and be totally satsified. Me on the other hand - I just keep eating it because it tastes SO DELICIOUS!
When I'm doing cakes, I'm not too bad about nibbling - the raw eggs in cake batter gross me out, I use bake-even strips so I don't have to level my cake, and I start to feel sick after not too much BC - but MMF?? I made some last night and made sure not to scrape the bowl too hard so I would "have to" finish what just wouldn't come out of the bowl.
But since I know I have absolutely zero self control when it comes to sweets - and that I HAVE to eat it if it's there - I just don't let myself buy it/make it, unless there will be plenty of people around to share (and so I won't eat it all b/c I'd be embarrassed in front of everyone!).
I LOVE to eat sweets too! I make a "diet" cake that I eat when I really need something. It is only 1 box of cake mix and 10oz of diet soda. Just mix the two together and put it in a pan greased with Pam spray. Bake it in the oven at 350 for about 25 minutes. Then when it is cool I cover it wiht fat free cool whip. It sounds kinda crazt but it tastes really good! Dark cake mixes work well with dar colored diet soda and light cake mixes work well with clear diet soda.
After trying so many diets and having nothing work I finally just started good old calorie counting. While it may not be the healthiest approach it sure keeps the weight off. If I have calories left at the end of the day I fill them up with whatever I want. Usually sweets. If dinner time comes and I have eaten a big slice of cake and five cookies and am out of calories for the day I skip dinner. Like I said not the healthiest approah but it works.
Plus I find that completely depriving myself of sweets causes me to binge. So instead I have a small slice of cake or 1 cookie at that 3 oclock hump that I have to get over. Then I am fine and I don't feel deprived.
Hey guys, want to laugh? I know why I was so frustrated a few weeks back...craving cakes and it was IMPOSSIBLE to diet. I felt puffy and felt I put on a couple pounds...
...I just found out I am preg with my 2nd baby! My husband is over here trying to feed me ice cream saying I need to make sure his baby gets enough calories AHHHHHH!
...I made and enjoyed a cake today in celebration LOL ![]()
Congrats on the Cupcake Parismom!
I lost 35 pounds about 3 years ago on the Suzanne Somers' way. I put some back on and was about to go back on when I found out I was pregnant. I was very good during my pregnancy but once my wee one was born, I decided to treat myself and then not having time to cook while trying to learn how to be a mom, that did me in. Easier to grab milk & 4 Oreos than cook. Right now, a year later, all of my weight is back on but about 5 pounds, it's VERY discouraging. Nothing puts weight on me faster than Oreos and even worse is cake. After awhile, it just seems like something to work with, though and not eat. Ugh.
I too had trouble in the beggining and gained about 10 lbs in the year. I now find that since I have been decorating for a year and a bit that I have found the recipes that I stick with and I know how they taste so I don't need to taste anything I have made if I stick to the original recipe. when I make a new recipe I do however have a sliver of a slice usually - some recipes are just so good and hard to resist like any thing with cream cheese icing
I don't really eat any of the stuff I make now because I know what it tastes like and although I really like it, I don't need it ![]()
The simple answer is "you can't"
One thing I did that worked to break me of the forsting tasting was to put my teeth whitening trays in my mouth when I was doing the cake. ![]()
Teeth whitening...good idea....
Maybe after the baby I can try that!
I made a vanilla cake with a raspberry glaze... it was so good... I know my unborn child was thanking me! LOL I know my 2 year old was thanking me.
I have actually been very good so far... I'm eating really healthy and lots of whole grain and low fat things - last time I was preg with my first I thought that everything low or non fat was bad and out the door - so I ate full fat everything. I know better now. I make better choices. Maybe I can find a nice healthier cake I can make as a reward every now and then. I did try substituting oil and egg for diet soda... That actually works and I was really happy about it!
I can't diet. I have to taste while I bake & frost. I've just stepped up my exercise routine,
I know this is probably a bit over the top but I printed an 8 x 10 picture of myself at my heaviest. It's on the front of the refrigerator, it helps me focus on eating healthy and getting back into shape. Definitely not a shot that would ever show up in Cosmo! *grin*
parismom - congratulations to you! At least now YOU have an excuse - but what's the excuse for the rest of us?! Ha ha! Just kidding. That's really exciting! I have 2 kids also and although I love them dearly - it gets really hard to do cakes with them around - the 4 year old always wants to "help" (just like yesterday - I'm working on a wedding cake and was working with gumpaste so there wasn't really anything he could help with. But I had a 6 inch round in the fridge so I frosted it with buttercream, gave him some sprinkles, some icing in a piping bag - and he was SOOOOO happy for at least half an hour! Just a suggestion for your 2 year old if he/she wants to help also! You feel so bad telling them no so I had to think of something for him to do) and the 1 year old all of a sudden gets clingy when my attention is diverted. But that's what hubby's are for! I didn't do many cakes the first year my second was born but now that he's a little older, it gets easier to do them. I really missed it!
Anyway, congrats and good luck!
I'm actually on a low carb diet. (I know.. I can hear the boo! hiss! coming from the crowd) but to be honest that's the only thing that has stopped my compulsive eating. I tried weightwatchers but something as simple as Cool whip free could set me off on a binge! And when I mean binge, I mean a serious eating disorder type of binge. I was actually diagnosed with an eating disorder (bulimia) a couple of years back. Only the idea of becoming pregnant and harming my child made me seriously consider getting help and being proactive. (We're trying for a baby next year! woohoo!)
And despite what many people think, I do eat (very few) fruits and (tons)vegetables and I stick to lean cuts of meat.. just NO sugar. My coworkers, family and friends do all of my tasting for me while I concentrate on the artistic presentation.
Dieting and cake making can be done... you just have to find the right 'program' for you.

This is one of the things I've done in the past....and I'm actually doing now!! I have a couple wallet sized photos of me in a bikini...like you said...nuttin that'll get me in Cosmo!!! ![]()

that I carry around w/me!!! I have one in my wallet, car, several around the kitchen, at work, etc. (so it always accessible). When I want something that I know I shouldn't have...but seem to find that one excuse that makes it ok....I go pull out 'THE' photo first......to just make sure I REALLY REALLY want it!!
Some of my family, friends, coworkers think I'm crazy!! But nothing can put it into prespective like looking at yourself in a bikini. And I have a front & back photo....uuuuugggghhhh!!!
