I was wondering what do you use to make a diamond pattern on fondant. (different techniques) icon_confused.gif

I bought a diamond cutter from www.creativecutters.com. It's called a diamond quilting cutter (or somthing like that). Search productss under 'cutters' --> 'metal' using the word 'diamond' and it will take you to them.

They work beautifully.

Do you think it is worth buying the mat for the diamond pattern or is there another way to make the pattern?

I bought the mat ... haven't tried it yet, but can't wait to.. I think it was worth the investment icon_smile.gif

Depending on how talented you are or how patient you are, you could maybe take a straw or a small dowelrod, and make the pattern yourself.

I thought I read somewhere here where you can use one of those things you use to put joint compound on walls but I can't seem to fing the post.

I use the impression mat and it works great! I think I bought mine online from Earlene's cakes!

I was going to order it but there is a $50 minimum order or they will charge me an extra $7 on top of that and shipping. You can't find out shipping cost ahead of time either. icon_sad.gif I will have to see if Michaels, Joann fabrics, or AC Moore sell it.

The other thing you might do is check to see if you have any stores in your area that specifically sell cake supplies only. I called information and found two in my area that I never even knew about. These stores usually sell everything you can imagine for cakes. You could also try to see if anyone is selling one on ebay. I have bought lots of cake decorating supplies on ebay and got a really good deal!
