I don't think either of these are the one you saw but they look great!

The water is piping gel and the people are sculpted from fondant.

Oh...I'm glad you found it! The ones with piping gel are probably just a thin layer of gel over buttercream. The one at beryl's...well I can't tell! It may be fondant. I've also heard of people using Jello--don't ask me how they do that. I would love to know too!

Thanks for your help!

I made a pool party cake and the water was just piping gel colored blue. Simple to do. My people were just buttercream though.

I've done a 'lake' and used piping gel too. When I did this, everyone kept asking me if it was gel toothpaste!

I think jello would liquefy if it were left at room temperature...but who knows, maybe if you made it with less water?

I've seen water done using melted clear candy or home made candy too. Melt or make the candy and pour it onto a baking sheet. Cut it to the size and shape you need before it gets hard and then after it hardens you lay it on top of where you want the water to be. You just have to lift it off before cutting the cake.

The jello way is to make blue jello and then to cut it into chunks and just dump it into the "pool". I guess you could just put a smooth piece in it too if you wanted.

right now i am making a hot tub cake (it will be posted tomorrow when i finish it) I made a small round cake and put a layer of fondant over the top. Then i dyed some piping gel blue. I needed bubbles of course and so i made a loose meringue and used a toothpick to swirl it through, here is a preview! I have made fondant people to put in here as well. It is actually sitting on the top of a larger cake. I only needed about 3 tbsps of gel for this.

The hot tub cake sounds neat. I don't know why, but I can never see the pics embedded in the posts, so I'll have to wait and check it out when you post it.

I used blue jello made with only 1 cup of water for this pool cake. I cut out the center of the cake and put the top of chinese food take out in the middle and filled it with the blue jello and put it in the refrigerator. The tiles are fondant swirled with teal and brushed with pearl dust. This picture doesn't do the cake justice-it was really pretty in real life.

Incredible! Can yu tell me how you did the sign? I have some signs to make for CCs and I'd like them to look like that only smaller.

Wow...it sure looks great! I can't imagine it looking any better. Thanks for sharing how you did the Jello. I've been wondering how that was done.

Thank you,
The sign looks 3d but it is printed from a program called print shop. I printed it on a heavy card stock paper & then hot glued a skewer to the back and stuck it in the cake. the same for the ribbon.

Thanks...I hope mine look as good as yours! I already bought the cardstock I plan to use (light browns). I'm going to put them in the CC using flat toothpicks. I was planning on just letting the toothpick be the post but I'm going to play with some clip art and see if I can come up with something like yours.

Oh Lisa I forgot to tell you I was looking for a birthday card the other day and I saw the card listed in your Cake Fun pages entitled " No you idiot I said SHEET cake!" so of course I had to buy it! I scanned it large so I could print it out and put it in my dorm at school. It's sooo funny. icon_biggrin.gif

I've not tried it, but I read somewhere that to do the jello thing, you cut out the area you want the "water" in, and line it with some plastic wrap. Then spoon in the 'almost set' jello and let it completely set. Then peel off the plastic wrap, frost the cake and set it in. Sounds easy enough, huh? icon_razz.gif

That would be so great...Thanks! I think I'll want it without color because the cardstock is colored. You don't have to go through that trouble though. I have a program that can do it. I really appreciate it.

That is so funny! I actually came across the picture before the caption so I was racking my brain trying to figure out what was going on with that cake. Once I saw it with the caption, I laughed sooo hard!

That does sound easy! I bet you could even add some gummy fish to that.
