I was just wondering what the most expensive cake cost? What has been the most expensive cake that you have ever done?

I have a flat fee for my cakes (I dont' charge extra for basketweave or other design elements) so it just depends on how many servings are ordered.

However .... I did see a dummy version of a cake at an ICES meeting earlier this year that had sold for $2700. 4-tier, I think, with lots of pastiallage (sp?) and fondant work on it.

(edited to correct a typo)

Wedding cakes seem to be the most expensive cakes that people expect to be expensive...and if they are willing to pay you what you're charging, great deal. But my sculpted cakes/custom cakes can run just as much. But then again, that's if they are willing to pay what I'm charging. My most expensive cake that wasn't a wedding cake was $150 but I have a cake coming up that will be $300 for a graduation. May not seem like much to many but I still have a lot of growing to do and exposure to gain as well as getting better cake challenges. Since I've started doing wedding cakes, the pay has been a lot better icon_lol.gif

I looked up wedding cake pricing on the web and here is what I found: average $1-$6 per serving. Depending on where, when and who makes it. I have heard that some people will pay up to $14.00 per slice so who knows.

I also looked up a few web sites of NewYork Cake Designers here is the only one of 3 that had some type of pricing. Beautiful work.

I have personally only made an anniversary cake that was to serve 100 people and I charge $100. I'm a beginer!
Good luck in your search.

Janet, I'm not. I printed it and two others out and they are in my "internet cake photos" file ..... so brides can see that my brides are a DARN good deal! I know I'm no Toba Garrett, but it's nice to have that extreme pricing right in front of them. The other two are $23/slice and $30/slice.

I just went to her website. She's really really good. But I really have a problem with a COOKIE that serves 2 is 125.00. Is it me or is that just crazy?

oh I just popped on there and there's a new one since my last visit. The wedding dress cake (top of the page) is $75/serving! ($1500 ... serves 20-25). I sure am looking forward to the day when my work can demand that kind of price! icon_razz.gif

The most I've got was $60. I don't make wedding cakes though. I've been asked but don't want to ruin anyone's wedding if it doesn't turn out.

A bakery here in Nashville that does carved cakes charges $9.00 per serving, and the minimum order is 100 servings. So their minimum cake is $900. Pretty good, I say! I wanna make cakes like that one day. With prices like that, one cake a week gets you a comfortable living!

I think Toba wins.

The most expensive wedding cake I have is coming up this summer and will be just under $1100.00.
