Look at my happy b-day pic in my photos and tell me what you think.I made this cake for my husbands 30th b-day party tommorow. Since I'm still very new to this I'm satisfied with how it turned out. But is it missing something. Should I put small green stars on the border or put something below the happy birthday. I should have put the happy birthday down lower. Oh well. I just want it to look good since it's the first cake I've done that lots of others will actually see. TIA.

I think it does need something under the name as well. I like Doug's idea!! That would be really cute. Otherwise, how about just the number "30" underneath?

Love the lip idea! You can also simply put a 30.

I like Doug's suggestion of a big set of kiss lips. Or if you have a little decoration of a hobby of his...a nascar, a plastic fish...how about a couple of buttercream balloons or use the outline of a favortie cookie cutter? Your cake looks great ~ with or without...

Love the lip & favorite toy ideas. Either way he will love it because you made it.

Doug's idea is a fun addition to your decorating. I would also like to say that you might either add another border closer to the edge of the top of the cake, maybe the green you mentioned. Also, I think that covering the cake board dresses up a cake. Whenever you have problems with writing, just add more decorations to offset the mistake. Good job at your first attempt. Can not wait to see what you do next.

thanks for your ideas. I loved the lipstick idea but I just don't think I'm that good. So I did a "30" It's in my photos. I hope it looks ok. I like it much better now. Thanks everyone.

The cake looks great.
Just an Idea for next time with the lips. I make a lot of chocolats and I have 2 mold with lips one is from Valentine and the other I forget. Anyhow you might want to check out Chocolate molds, they often help me out when I want to make small additions and decorations to cakes and if you are running out of time or ideas. Also if you have little chocolates next to your cakes with the theme of the cake it's really cool!
Great job. Keep it up.
