first: W E L C O M E !!!!

warning, this site is addictive

---------------

results of search of gallery for this style cake: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&meta=search&type=full&search=magic+hat

---------------

perhaps -->

rounds stacked for main body of hat. (i've drawn 4 rounds for a nice tall hat --this would be 8 to 9" high torted and filled -- can use fewer for shorter)

for the double set of rounds, treat like stacked cake by putting cakeboard between bottom 2 and top 2 and use dowels to support.

ice w/ BC and can also cover in fondant.

brim of hat -- cakeboard that is wider by at least 4" than rounds are (example: if rounds 6", the 10"+ cake board). -- cover in fondant.

bunny head: ball of cake -- use mini-ball pan if have or bake two halves in small pyrex bowl or carve from rounds. (i'd use grass tip to do fir) dowel through head and cakeboard into base cake to keep it from rolling away)

ears: fondant or gumpaste or cardboard.

little icing paws (and a carrot too???)

Doug this is the second post I saw you just draw up stuff, you are great.
Question, would you ever use a Chocolate as a "plate" instead of a board covered in fondant for the brim or is that too much? I love the stuff and try to make everything edible if I can!

Good Luck Amy78.

hmmm....interesting question.

I suppose if one was talented enough w/ chocolate, a person could make a big enough/thick enough circle of it that it could be used as the brim of the hat. would have to be sure to leave hole for dowel in bunny head to go through --- unless you just "glued" the cake to the brim w/ more chocolate

(or for an ICK variation a big old circle of gumpaste)

and....

I wonder -- if person didn't have a ball pan of suitable size --- could ya just make one super-mongo large cake ball!?!?! (can ya imagine!?)

I did similar to what Doug suggested except that I Made the rabbit out of a cookie and stuck in two dowels before baking. Then I iced both sides of the rabbit after I stuck it in.
