I'll leave the suggestions to the pro's, but my first thought went to some kind of coffee cup cake topper.

Here are some cakes from the gallery that might give some ideas:

Maybe tiers, with a coffee pot on top, and coffee cup satellites?

I'll always have conflicting emotions over requests like this. On the positive side, it's a great feeling when the client has no ideas or suggestions and the cake person comes up with this brilliant design that the client just loves. On the other hand, a client has NO idea what kind of cake she wants so she just dumps it in your lap to come up with SOMETHING, and you've no idea if you're going in the right direction. I mean, it's their wedding .... did they put any kind of thought at all into what they want besides "coffee ... you figure out the rest!"?

It's fun to have free reign, though!! Gets those creative juices going!

How about a coffee can, like Folgers or Maxwell house icon_confused.gif Maybe something with little coffee beans? How many guests? Fondant, buttercream? K'ly

I like the second cake that darlene posted. Personally, I would add small biscottis of various flavors on the tiers and especially on the top with the cups!

Very cute.

LOL, my favorite subject...COFFEE! How about chocolate covered espresso beans as decorations also. They taste awesome! and if the bride is a coffee lover, she'll really like these.

you could even put a light coffee flavor into the cake or icing. Might be overkill, but just a thought

My first though was just to keep it simple, not go too far with the coffee thing but keep the general feeling. I thought a natural buttercream icing color (you know its kinda ivory) and chocolate icing accents, perhaps even incorporating silver balls. Simple yet elegent. I guess it depends how deep the bride is using the coffee theme if its a general "mood" of the wedding or a full out coffee pot centerpeices thing.

Just my thoughts

You guys are so great to help me - so many good ideas

I thought this was her wedding cake but it's for her shower.

I do want to keep it a little on the simple side, and I didn't even think that would be great to do a mild coffee flavor (open for suggestions). The chocolate covered beans can be worked in and the color Ivory will work.

She sent me a picture of her center pieces. They are vases filled half way with coffee beans and a voltive cup with candle in the center. I wonder if she thought of this or got the idea of a coffee theme somewhere. Interesting.

I wasn't thinking when I sent her the second picture to ask regymusic if it was alright to send. I will have to pm her. The birde loved the coffee cups on the top and side.

Keep them coming, I can't tell you what a help all of you are.

I like the coffee cups idea too. How about some biscotti also, and the chocolate covered coffee beans would be cool too. I'll be watching for this cake when its finished because it sounds like something my mom would love for her birthday coming up icon_smile.gif Good Luck!

What if you did kind of a tiramisu filling with a sponge cake. White choc buttercream, with choc. accents with the Dark choc. covered coffee beans.

Or this its a Chocolate Coffee Mousse....Make Chocolate cups and fill with this mousse...

48 lg. marshmallows
1 1/4 c. double strength coffee
1 c. whipped cream
Grated chocolate

Heat marshmallows
with 1 1/4 cups double strength coffee and stir
until marshmallows are melted. Turn into a medium bowl and chill until thickened (about 20 minutes).
Fold in 1 cup of whipped cream and chill until
ready to serve. Garnish with grated chocolate.

I need advice, how does Orange Cake with Mocha filling and White Chocolate Buttercream?

The bride had first asked for Orange cake. I was looking on the net and seen the combination.

White Chocolate Buttercream will it frost and do borders?

I did a bit of a coffee "theme" for my wedding reception. We didnt want to serve liquor so we had a full on coffee bar! Instead of a cake( I actually am not a big fan of eating cake, just making them icon_smile.gif we had a 5 tier cookie stand to go with the coffee, so I think that anything you can do with biscotti, etc.. is great.

I also think that coffee beans are fabulous because theyre so elegant and they will smell divine. Chocolate covered espresso beans are also great. Even a "coffee cake" as in struessel or something might be nice. Adding flavor to the cake, along with a mocha mousse filling is an idea too. Find out if she plans on serving specialty coffees and that will give you an idea of where to go with the cake. For example if shes serving french vanilla lattes, you might not want to do french vanilla in the cake cause its overkill.

Just some thought from a coffee junkie icon_smile.gif

I made a great Tiramisu cake by taking Cake Doctor Bacardi Rum recipe and substituting espresso for liquid and Kahlua for rum. I also used the regular marscapone filling and used espresso for liquid in my buttercream. I used the Wilton Bc and I wouldn't do that again. It cracked off (basketweave) when slicing.

Ok now! This is a wedding!?
Well, when I worked at Michaels we had some cool things for coffee and weddings. Pink and brown went together really well. We put just REAL coffee beans in pretty vases. Maybe you can do a chocolate and pink cake with small vases seperating the tiers filled with coffee beans! Then it is still wedding and you have the real smell of coffee beans. It looks very modern and smells WONDERFUL!
GOOD LUCK! thumbs_up.gif

No, this is for her shower

She loved the second pic that darlene suggested. I found 3D coffe molds to make the cups on top. I'm going to fill them with the Tiramisu filling. I found coffee cup/coffee pot cookie cutters to do the side. If I go with the spoons which I don't know if I will I will just cover plastic spoons.

I couldn't figure out how to make the steam come out of the cups on top so I was thinking of placing spoons in the cups.

She couldn't pick if she wanted Caramel or French Vanilla so I suggested a teir of each. It's a two tier cake.

I'm going to use coffee beans in the design. I think the Ivory color would been good to use.

Yumm, her shower is going to smell so good. See how all your ideas came together to help me. I would never pull this off without my CC family - thanks.

I will post a pic on this thread so you all will get to see it.

A coffee bar at a wedding - now, that's my kind of wedding. I would be bouncing on the dance floor from all the caffine.
